The main thing is to look in the Windows Logs (at least System and Applications) after changes.
And Windows Update may not happen due to disabling something.

This list is recommended by Chris Titus winutil, so I don't think windows update breaks. I only changed SysMain and WSearch as disabled. all others are from winutil which is a popular powershell script. How can I test windows update?

What is it you’re hoping to achieve by deactivating any of these services, Sheikh?
Are you thinking you’re going to get some sort of performance boost, security enhancements or other benefit?
I have to be honest, I see people mention Chris Titus’ name and I always just… meh.

I'm in the group that leaves all of the services as default. Years ago I use to use the recommendations from Black Viper. With the power and speed of todays computers I don't see any benefits of changing any of the settings.

What is it you’re hoping to achieve by deactivating any of these services, Sheikh?
Are you thinking you’re going to get some sort of performance boost, security enhancements or other benefit?
I have to be honest, I see people mention Chris Titus’ name and I always just… meh.
We have a very old device with 4GB ram in our office, so I want to modify its settings.

Sysman is superfetch and disabling it will slow down your computer, Wsearch is windows search, disabling it will make your searches much slower. My recommendation is don't disable services unless you know what they do otherwise you risk breaking functionality you need/want to have a better windows experience

I would avoid any list of “services to disable,” Titus or otherwise, if it provides no context about what the service does, or what stops working when you kill it. That was the beauty of the BV lists back in the day.

Let it break bro! Why are you afraid of breaking things? I mean, When we don't use XBOX on our machine, why it should be running in the background?

You’re assuming I don’t disable services, which is not what I said at all.

It’s odd that someone would ask why one would avoid breaking things. I avoid it for the same reason I avoid hitting myself in the face.

Disabled or manual?
those 53 services are 'disabled'

about 2/3 of the other services are manual
the remaining 1/3 are auto or auto delayed

i also go through task manager and task scheduler and disable several in both.
i haven't done a list for those.
best of luck, Steve ..

There's major differences for a desktop versus a laptop. A laptop may depend on services that a mobile user needs.

For example, tzautoupdate will adjust your laptop's Time Zone if you're traveling across longer distances. Your desktop will move no further than your home or office.

Most lists are naive and don't separate services required for server vs. desktop vs. laptop/tablet. And most tweak tools don't bother to help you back up the previous Services settings, and help you revert them. And telling someone to "backup their entire system with Macrium and restore" is equally as lame an advice when the tweaking tool can just create a revert script at the time it applies changes.

I agree with you. that's why I'm asking members to know which services they disabled and had no problem. I will check every list and edit it based on my use and my hardware. for example my laptop doesn't support rotation and doesn't have a touch screen so I can set rotation service and pen service as manual.
