Why do you let Windows 11 installed on a computer with TPM 1.2?

I just installed Windows 11 on a computer with TPM 1.2 it's an i3 3220U and I was surprised because it's not supposed to install if it doesn't have version 2 or am I wrong?
It is not a modified Windows image, it is downloaded from Microsoft.

Windows 11 recommends a TPM 2.0 chip in your system to upgrade, although TPM 1.2 will meet their minimum criteria. Microsoft requires this technology to improve the customer's security—though many experts believe these specifications are excessive.
So, if you want to upgrade to Windows 11, you have to discover if your computer has a TPM and what TPM version you have access to.

[To do this, type PowerShell in the Start menu search bar. Right-click on the Windows PowerShell result and choose Run as administrator. Click Yes on the confirmation window.

In the Windows PowerShell app, type get-tpm, then press Enter.

Now, if you attempt to upgrade to Windows 11 with a TPM 1.2 chip but not a TPM 2.0, you'll encounter a message stating that the "upgrade is not advised." But if you don't even have a TPM 1.2 chip, you won't even make it that far—the Windows 11 upgrade won't be offered to your device.

In the Microsoft page in the minimum requirements it says that 2.0 is required. I understand that this is indispensable, where is it written that it also works with older versions?

OR....if your ISO is pre-conditioned by "Rufus", you can install Win-11 with NO TPM at all.

MS has also added some CPUs to the required list.
I can't find anywhere that it specifically "says" TPM 1.2 is OK either, other than that one article.

You have to think like MS. It's more important to them to have "everyone" running Windows 11, than anything else.
Also... a lot depends on how you installed Windows 11.

There's so much money, politics and BS involved, that it's hard to keep up.
The point is... if it worked.. sit back and enjoy it.



We have a topic on these forums somewhere, that shows how to avoid ALL the MS requirements.

We old timers, are thankful for a program like "Rufus" that lets us burn an ISO to a Flash Drive and at the same time remove all the BS (conditions, stipulations, and dumb questions) so that we can get a nice clean and easy install of Win-11. Just passed install #16, and counting. Sweet!
It also works, to some extent, on Win-10 ISO's too.

It's not written, not officially any way, MS want you to buy a new PC. In practice we have all found that Windows 11 will run perfectly well on systems with no TPM at all. Why does MS say you need TPM 2.0? Because without it you don't have all the possible security options that are now in W11.

May I ask what method you used to make your bootable usb? Not only does having a tpm 1.2 usually stop an installation in it's tracks but your third generation cpu is not on MS list as being compatible either. As was pointed out, if you used Rufus and chose Rufus' option to bypass all requirements, that would be the answer.
If you made your media using the media creation tool the install should have stopped for either of those inconsistencies.

The i3 3220U isn't on the list of approval CPUs so you must have tweaked Win 11 installation files and probably the TPM check was also ignored.

The way i see it "The Official requirements" are basically the recommended (as in - this are the only system comonents they approve for beta testing - with the intent of actively patching and offering updates if needed). The official lists of CPUs - also revolves around generations of CPUs where even the Low End - can run Windows 11 with ease (while meeting the other requirement), while mid-range to high-end from older generations - despite of running Windows 11 just fine - are among those patched (also crippled) for major vulnerabilities (like Spectre and Meltdown) - so maybe they were aiming for a clean slate as well. Ofc the last part is just an optimistic (even slightly naive) way to look at it - cause it could simply be a business move - and agreement with CPU manufacturers which compels the OEM (Dell, HP, Asus, etc) and its customers - to go for latest models - while following the official CPU support list.
