I did that, my search still shows up as blank but if I wait it eventually does show something. It looks like it's just really slow. I don't understand why, it's a brand new computer and it's more advanced than my old computer in every way. It has...

double the ram
almost double the cores
more processing speed.

You won't be installing anything. It's just downloading and running a script from Microsoft to reset Search.

The last time I went shopping to help my GF pick out a new laptop we also landing on a nice "fast" laptop for her. It ended up being mind numbingly slow and even after updating everything and cleaning all the "free" software it came with it still was a slug. Ended up returning it for a different brand.

I would suggest reviewing and removing any of the free crap software especially any anti-virus included that tend to be trash.
Update all of the drivers and firmware

If it's still painfully slow you may want to consider returning it provided you're still in your return window

For instance if I click the start menu or press the Windows key and begin typing there can be an up to 7-9 second delay before I see any text populate in my search field and results beginning to show.
