Why download patch after failed attempt

So I currently have this patch " 2026-07 Security Update (Hotpatch capable) (KB5121768) (26100.8893) "
which doesn't want to install, but every time I perform Retry, it starts to ... download.

I've seen this many times with other patches as well.

Why is he always downloading it again ? If the installation failed, you had the patch because you tried to install it. Why download it again ?

KB5121768 is only for W11 Enterprise. Because hotpatching isn't currently available on other Windows editions.

Have you made any recent changes which would confuse Windows Update?

I dunno, your Windows wants to install an Enterprise KB that doesn't apply to Retail Windows. Either that's a terrible Windows bug, or something was changed to confuse WU what your system has.

KB5121767 is the version for normal Windows, and KB5121768 is Enterprise-only.

I don't really understand what the problem is with "Enterprise KB".

Who says my machine isn't corporate ?

There's no doubt whatsoever this is a Windows bug ..

Are you on Enterprise? Your posted a question with almost no background details.

It's generally assumed ElevenForum users are on Home or Pro, unless someone mentions a different edition.

If you have Windows 11 Home/Pro you install KB5121767 if it's an enterprise licensed copy of Windows you install KB5121768. You don't/can't install both.

Powershell: 
Get-CimInstance Win32_OperatingSystem | select Caption
will tell you which edition you have.

... doesn't tell if Enterprise License or not.

I don't know why you think I want to install both of these patches.

Luckily now after 10 or so posts, we know I run the most common edition of the most common version. Glad we sorted that out.

Also don't bother answering any of my questions.

It's not. It will say Windows 11 Ent or Enterprise instead of Pro

here is the download from the Microsoft Update Catalog

download the correct version for your system and you can install it directly.
