I just posted those cables, in case you needed to see that they are fairly cheap, when you contemplate those Gigabit to USB adapters.
For planning purposes. :-)

Some laptops today don’t even come with an Ethernet port, this would be great when you’re at home.

I bought a cheapo HP Notebook running Win11 with Microsoft 365, does not have the Ethernet port but I have a USB Gigabit dongle if I need it, [Half the value of the Notebook was the year subscription of Microsoft 365.]

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 with the speed issues but the biggest problem showed up at my daughter's before Christmas, her Router is set for 5G only by her ISP and my Notebook has only 2G wireless. I now have 2 dongles for it, a Gigabit Ethernet and an 802.11AC Wireless.

Final update.
I followed the advice of Ghot & purchased a Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter, USB to RJ45.
Internet speed is 320Mbps up & down - actually faster than my ISP's advertised speed.
Thanks for your advice.

I have a Realtek USB GbE Family Controller NIC on my laptop. I get over 350MB down speeds, but when connected to my gigabit switch I only get about 80 to 90MB down.
Anyone have other ideas why I get less speed?

Because the chipset is limited to 100Mbps maximum bandwidth. Just because your MB has a 1 GB ethernet port doesn't mean everyone does. My Dell has no ethernet port but does have Wi-Fi 6E which supports up to 9.6Gbps on the 6GHz band.

I just got a USB to Ethernet adapter for my Notebook without the built-in Ethernet port, works fine.

I try not to worry about speed as long as my IPS provides what I'm paying for but do have to remember whatever I download is coming through a multitude of wired connections from the great wherever.

Referring back to my #23 post, fixed my daughter's problem by putting a salvaged 2G/5G Wireless adapter in her Notebook and in mine, now we both get the 5G speed.
