Win 11 image backup options - currently using Acronis True Image...

Hi Guys,

A bit of background first...

Since using Windows 10, I always installed windows on a single partition, with no boot partition, recovery partition, etc. Every couple of months I'd use a USB-bootable copy of Acronis True Image to create an image backup of the partition. This was great, since restoring was a very simple process: restore the image file back into a single partition.

Since installing Windows 11 on a number of new PCs I'm getting a bit confused about the number of additional partitions (EFI boot, System Recovery, etc) that seem to appear. I'm guessing that these new partition also need to be backup-up as part of the image?

Are there any backup programs (aside from the Microsoft option) that would make backing up and restoring simple? ie: Not having to much around creating and resizing new partitions, then making sure they were all restored in the correct place?

Most imaging programs do something called system backup. Which is similar to ms system image - they automatically select any partitions needed for windows. Other partitions can be added if desired.

They all do similar as far as I am aware. Doesn't your Acronis have something like that?

Hasleo or Macrium will do a system image for you.

Easy with mbr partition disk

Quite common to have just one that is both boot and system and winre in %systemdrive%\recovery

In simple terms, for UEFI systems, just select all hidden partitions as well as main OS/data partitions.

ACRONIS is fully UEFI compatible.

I use Acronis TI 2025 for my Windows 11 machines, it works flawlessly. It's smart enough to backup the EFI and recovery partitions with the Windows boot partition in a single backup.

Yes, it's smart enough to restore them from that file as well, I had to do that a couple weeks ago when for reasons only known to the bit gods, a simple application installation ended up in a boot loop. I tried all the normal fixes, restore points, repair installation, and finally just pointed Acronis at my boot backup from a few days before and in a flash I was up and running again.

Unless you feel the burning desire to start using a different backup application, Acronis TI will do it just fine.
