win 11 only recognizes 4 core of my 6 core CPU

MSConfig.exe will not allow changes in boot advanced ' says secured boot prevents it. Is there any way to get around this??

Does Task Manager, Performance, CPU show 6 logical processors? My Core i5 Notebook of Oct. '21 shows 8 and msconfig shows 8, default install Win11, gives no error when selected.

Make sure you have the latest AMD drivers installed for your CPU.


If you need to, disable Secure Boot in your BIOS beforehand. You may re-enable it afterwards if you desire.

Before you do anything, make sure you have the absolute latest BIOS for your motherboard. This is a very common BIOS bug that affects all AMD CPUs. May be related to too aggressive CPU tuning. Most reports I have seen are related to having XMP enabled which drops the CPU core count for some reason. Some get 4/6 and others 5/6 etc... Turning XMP off lets you configure max enabled cores in case Windows does not detect this automatically.

Next step is to download AMD Ryzen Master, install it and on every settings page where you can click "reset to defaults" do so and apply. The app says nothing to reset, but that is OK. After you are done, just reboot and then check in task manger if you have all 6 cores 12 threads enabled.

EDIT: Modern CPUs are programmable, and in AMDs case something got corrupt in the CPU for some reason, thus these issues.
EDIT: When doing a BIOS update I also recommend a RESET TO DEAFULTS in BIOS both before and after update. This way you ensure the BIOS is in its intended state. After this you can tweak whatever settings you feel you need to tweak.

I would try with CMOS reset first. Did you upgrade CPU at any time ?
