OS
Win11 Home
For at least the last year on this Win11 machine I've had my screen timeout set to 15 minutes and if I come back to the laptop after that, the screen has gone black and when I wake it up with a mouse-click or press a key on the keyboard, it asked me for my PIN.

For the last week or so, 90% of the time instead of asking me for the PIN it asks me for the password. I have to click on sign-on options and switch to PIN.

It's annoying waking it up with a keypress, entering my PIN quickly and seeing an error because it wasn't asking for a PIN, it was asking for a password.

Hello mate, :alien:

If wanted, you could enable passwordless sign-in to no longer see the password sign-in option.

Hello mate, :alien:

Thanks for that. I already had those "for microsoft accounts" settings set in that way. As for the "for local accounts" one. I've tried that, and it's still there on the login screen.

I did notice something unexpected. When I click on the password option (rather than my usual clicking only on the PIN one) it says "Global Protect" on it, which is the VPN of my employer that I need to use to access their intranet servers. I guess when I installed that (or during a recent update) it enforced this defaulting to password because it's safer than PIN. One of those "organizational requirements" things.

I guess I'm going to be living with this minor annoyance as long as I need that VPN installed

Thanks Shawn.

Organization (work) policies will indeed override.
