Hello
only a Trifle, Win11 uptodate no longer stores the brightness setting, had ironed yesterday still InplaceReparatur over it, as far as everything 1A, driver all uptodate on Lenovo P50, already tried a lot, also screen calibration with saved profile poops Win11 on it, more precisely, after each restart the brightness is at 100%, so that I already have to put on sunglasses :) then regulate down again to 40%, what kind of little thing is rotten there?
In the events are tons of DCOM errors ID 10010
The server "{7022A3B3-D004-4F52-AF11-E9E987FEE25F}" could not be registered within the specified time period with DCOM, this is known from win10 and can also be ignored according to MS.

EDIT:
Problem solved, just looked at Windows Update, it had installed me the latest monitor driver ( August 2021 ), but not as an optional, strangely enough, have now installed an old ( NOV. 2017 ), now does what it should, darkens nice at the start. So as always check the update, always display it via GPEDIT, but had everything installed.
Nice that I don't need sunglasses anymore, I wish the Win11 Usern and Co. a nice evening.😁

Newer drivers will probably install again unless you hide them (block) with Windows Update Show/Hide tool.

Thanks for the tipp, I have been using the tool for a long time against annoying driver updates, have already hidden the driver, but now it comes :
This morning I launch the Lenovo P50...
oh you crap, the brightness setting is already gone again, now I have reinstalled the graphics driver, powermanager driver, Lenovo vantage, power manager and battery driver, the problem remains, ONLY when I start in battery mode, the setting is preserved, unfortunately simply not possible to save the brightness in the power supply mode, what can be lazy there?
System is uptodate Win11 22000.346, driver all up-to-date, DISM repair commands and sfc all ok.
Hmmm... what a Crap. I hope anyone have an idea. ? 🤔

Put this in a batchfile and then add the batchfile to your startup:
Code:
FOR /F "tokens=4" %%v IN ('powercfg GetActiveScheme') DO (SET a=%%v)
powercfg SetAcValueIndex %a% SUB_VIDEO VIDEONORMALLEVEL 65
This will set the screen brightness for AC power mode to 65%. (You can edit the value to anything from 0 to 100.)

To read the current screen brightness percentage level for AC power mode, you can use this:
Code:
@ECHO OFF
SETLOCAL EnableDelayedExpansion
FOR /F "tokens=4" %%v IN ('powercfg GetActiveScheme') DO (SET a=%%v)
SET "b=      GUID Alias: VIDEONORMALLEVEL"
SET LF=^

REM The two empty lines are required here
SET "output="
FOR /F "delims=" %%v IN ('powercfg q %a% SUB_VIDEO') DO (
   IF DEFINED output SET "output=!output!!LF!"
   SET "output=%%v"
   SET "output=!output:*AC Power Setting Index: =!
   IF !c! == 1 (IF NOT !output! == %%v GOTO endloop)
   IF !output! == !b! SET /a c=1
)
:endloop
SET /a r=!output!
ECHO The current screen brightness level is: %r%%%

Running it as Administrator isn't required, but it still works for me regardless. What happens if you type powercfg getactivescheme at the command prompt? For me it shows the GUID of the active power scheme, so that I can select it by dragging over it with my mouse, like this:

getactivescheme.png

Next, if I press the Enter key, the selected text is copied to my clipboard, so that I can:
  1. Type powercfg q at the command prompt, and,
  2. Right-click on the black background in the command window to paste the copied text from clipboard, and,
  3. Type SUB_VIDEO, and,
  4. Press Enter.
This is what I get next:

Changing AC Power Setting Index to Wechselstromeinstellung should work for the second batchfile. But if the first batchfile does nothing for you, then I suspect that it's because you have Adaptive brightness set to enabled in your Power plan. (The GUID Alias VIDEONORMALLEVEL only affects the screen brightness when the screen neither is in the Adaptive brightness mode nor is in the Dimmed mode, so that probably is why.)
Code:
@ECHO OFF
SETLOCAL EnableDelayedExpansion
FOR /F "tokens=4" %%v IN ('powercfg GetActiveScheme') DO (SET a=%%v)
SET "b=      GUID-Alias: VIDEONORMALLEVEL"
SET LF=^

REM The two empty lines are required here
SET "output="
FOR /F "delims=" %%v IN ('powercfg q %a% SUB_VIDEO') DO (
   IF DEFINED output SET "output=!output!!LF!"
   SET "output=%%v"
   SET "output=!output:*Wechselstromeinstellung: =!
   IF !c! == 1 (IF NOT !output! == %%v GOTO endloop)
   IF !output! == !b! SET /a c=1
)
:endloop
SET /a r=!output!
ECHO The current screen brightness level is: %r%%%
PAUSE
EDIT: Added the missing - character in GUID-Alias.

This changes the screen's Adaptive brightness level for AC Power mode to 65%:
Code:
FOR /F "tokens=4" %%v IN ('powercfg GetActiveScheme') DO (SET a=%%v)
powercfg SetAcValueIndex %a% SUB_VIDEO ADAPTBRIGHT 65

P.S., Here's a tutorial to enable/disable adaptive brightness: Enable or Disable Adaptive Brightness in Windows 10

Hallo,
ihave found this:
the author write it is only possible on GERMAN Windows,
" Das unten angeführte Skript funktioniert nur unter einer deutschsprachigen Windows-Installation, da die für das Setzen der Einstellungen notwendigen IDs anhand von Stichworten aus einer deutschen Textausgabe herausgefiltert werden müssen.. "

That's probably the reason why your scripts don't work, but you're great, the Skript from the author is similar to yours and works perfectly, but I still don't understand why Win11 doesn't save it to me and displays an adaptive brightness that doesn't work with the Lenovo p50, because it doesn't have a sensor for it, already strange. :oops:
Do you also have the problem that win11 does not save the brightness, otherwise you do not need a script ?.
But first of all, I'm glad that it already works with the German batch. let's see further, here I had already tried, no improvement.
Best regards form Germany.
I will be back.

Could a Lenovo power utility override your settings? Try adjusting the brightness from the Lenovo utility, if any, or try uninstalling the utility so Windows can take control of the brightness. Also check if you have enabled night mode or anything similar, this could also affect brightness. Could it be any brightness setting in BIOS that overrides the one in Windows?

Could a Lenovo power utility override your settings? Try adjusting the brightness from the Lenovo utility, if any, or try uninstalling the utility so Windows can take control of the brightness. Also check if you have enabled night mode or anything similar, this could also affect brightness. Could it be any brightness setting in BIOS that overrides the one in Windows?
I have think so, as a test I have the powermanger driver, Lenovo vantage, graphics driver, hotkeys everything de.- u. reinstalled, no change, even with older drivers, already strange, I have 2 other win11 installations on the P50, which run error-free. 😁, So not so bad either.
The Device does not have a sensor for adaptive brightness.

That looks like most likely an error that has existed at least since Windows XP. (NT5) If not Windows 2000 as well.
