Windows 11 22H2 “Moment 2” update to begin shipping in a few weeks

I do not really see what "Moment 2" is.

Essentially the blogs says new features will be added by cumulative updates.

How is this different to what happens now with feature updates?

This is just bullcrap marketing to make it look like something fundamental has changed.

Cumulative updates never used to include feature updates (except those that were dormant and waiting for an Enablement package to turn them on). I suppose MS thought a shift in methodology needs another name, 'Moment' is as good (or bad) as any. 'Moment 2' will not just be delivered in the CU's, things like tabs for Notepad will be via a Store update.

This is just bullcrap marketing to make it look like something fundamental has changed.

Something has changed though, we're getting new features every few months or so instead of having to wait for them all to arrive in the next annual Feature Update.

Huh - we have been getting feature updates as part of the CU upgrades since dawn of Windows 10. As far as I can tell, they are not moving to 23H3 via an entitlement package.

This is just marketing hype.

Starting with Windows 11 - Microsoft claimed they'll cut down on feature updates - reducing from 2x per year to just 1 per year (23H2 for this year). Those claimed were made to calm the spirits of so many people - who ran into serious issues with with specific feature updates (not the only ones tho) - which were kinda pushed to be released closer to the scheduled date (around a month or two beyond the deadline) - while still lacking proper testing (or fixing all the issued found during testing).

That being said - this BS Momentum 2 (or whatever they chose to call it) - makes no sense - while taking their oficial statements into account. A... "here we go again type of thing". Cause Microsoft officials spewing blunt lies - is not new (more like - to be expected all things consider - like so many other past statements). After all... back in 2015 - Jerry Nixon (a core dev - or how he likes to put it - Architect & Engineer on Microsoft's Commercial Software Engineering Retail team) - made it sound like - Windows 10 is the last version of Windows...


A blunt lie or marketing strategy - to convince more people to jump on the Windows 10 train - i suppose...

Yet, going back on their words - when it comes to multiple feature updates could be a bad thing - aka - more bugged updates lacking proper testing (or fixing) - piddling of many people and wasting their time with rollbacks or a reinstall (those who backup their OS are still a minority).

I am patiently waiting for the 22H2 Update and see no hurry, for doing my normal daily activities. Chill Out.....lol I'd rather have an update that is rather complete.

I believe that the difference is that because of architectural changes, Microsoft now has the ability to deliver certain changes that previously required upgrading your version of Windows to a whole new version because the changes required updates to core Windows components.

However, they now have things like the "Windows Feature Experience Pack", and more and more components getting decoupled and made available as updates through the Microsoft Store.

So, I think it is more than merely marketing, although it seems to me that there is still a healthy dose of that.

Personally, and not everyone may agree, I rather like what MS is doing lately. They are actually delivering some nice features in these "moment" updates. I'm already making rather heavy use of some of these changes in my daily workflow and it was nice getting these features without have to wait for the next major release.

I guess that there is simply no way to please everyone, and I certainly have things I could complain about, but I'm pretty happy with some of the things being done recently.

I just received Win11, 22H2 Update for my HP i5, and downloaded and installed perfectly. My wife's new replacement HP laptop is to be delivered in 2 more days, from China. It was ordered on 3-21-23. We are retired folk in our late 70's and I like to keep our systems current. About the only time she uses her laptop is for online banking, otherwise, it is her iPad, Kindle and Android phone.

It is automatic with me to check for upgrades and or updates every week. Been doing it since 1992. Remember dial-up???
