Hello,

I have installed via rufus the new 22h2 update on a desktop ( English international and a laptop English US so 2 different ISO's) both machines stuck at downloading updates afterwards stuck at 0%.

i downloaded the newest version of 22h2 and upgraded again both machines with different iso's. Same problem again.
Followed several guides from sfc and dism,
deleted softwaredistribution folder
checked bits to run automatic.
but after 2 upgrades i have no idea.

Can someone suggest anything?

Thank you

Helo @wasp252 welcome to Eleven Forum.

It would help if you listed the full model of your motherboard.

I don't think your CPU is Windows 11 compatible, which may be your problem.
I don't even see an Intel core i7 440 CPU anywhere.
Might want to check here...

Might help if you posted a screenshot of Speccy (free version)...

It'll look like this...

Try this instead...

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free) (optional, but a good idea)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.
When asked, tell it to do the updates later.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

An In-Place upgrade should fix any Windows issues.

I'm not positive, but I'm not sure RUFUS allows for non-compatible CPUs.
I know it allows for everything else.

Maybe someone else knows for sure.

I only see specs for one computer. Are all the computer identical hardware?
If not... what's the hardware on the one(s) that succeeded and the one(s) that didn't?

We only know what you tell us.
As I said... an In-Place upgrade should ignore and repair any Windows software problems.

You sound like you know what you're doing.
So what's different between the ones that succeeded and the ones that failed?

/edit

So it's JUST the Windows Updates you're having issues with?
Others have had those issues as well. It may have to do with the order they're installed in.

Assuming you're non-Insider, you can check here for solutions...

If you're on the Insider channel, then check here...

well i can get the laptop specs for you. but i believe if we can find the solution on mine machine the same solution/fix will apply to the laptop also. The laptop itself is older that the desktop.

@Ghot
Yes i have more than 20 years of exp in I.T. but there comes some point where you go crazy and run out of ideas.
(Maybe rufus does a bad installation or dl a non-right iso's or maybe the program fixes for tpm or something)
I guess the common factor is rufus and not even the iso itself as they are different.
Thats why i came to the forums itself. i had found them by luck several years ago for win 10 and didn't need to register but kept it in mind.lol

Yes it is JUST windows updates and only those:) crazy yes? both machines one desktop , one laptop, one wired ,one wifi stuck at 0% for the last 5 days since i performed the in place upgrades ( the first one) and today the second one.

well i can get the laptop specs for you. but i believe if we can find the solution on mine machine the same solution/fix will apply to the laptop also. The laptop itself is older that the desktop.

Ok, as far as I can tell here the order...

The upGRADE was 22621.382

Then the upDATE took us to 22621.521 then 22621.525 then 22621.608

At those News links up above, you'll find posts for each of the updates since the 22H2 upGRADE.
And on the 1st page of those posts you'll find download links for the manual installers.

Or...
WAU Manager... will allow you to down the upDATES in order, aka separately.

Set it up like this (ignore the scheduling)

Image1.png

Then in the bottom right click "Update Windows Now". It will give you a list of updates.
You can then choose (via check marks) which to install in which (one at a time) order.

In the Windows 11 News links above, you can see what order they were released in.

The only weirdness with the updates that I noticed was that some people had trouble doing them all at once.
I even noticed on my comp which had no troubles, that some updates didn't appear till others were already installed.

Maybe what's happening to you, is some kind of log jam with the updates?

@wasp252
Try just installing that update, reboot when asked... etc.
Then check Windows Updates again... etc.

Here are all the Windows Update blocking tools. Some work, some don't, some work partially on Win 11

See my edit just above. Try the manual installers, in order, one by one. Top of post #15

I type very slowly. LOL

You can type: winver in the Taskbar search box to see what build # you're currently on.

I have used a Rufus created USB to update 2 non supported CPU machines to 22H2 (both have TPM2 & local accounts)
I disconnected the internet connection (unplugged the network) & did the update without any problems. CPUs were i5 - a 4th gen & a 6th gen.

After completion I reconnected network & then I think there were 2 lots of updates
