I just turned the Windows 10 desktop on and an screen came on with Win 11 logo in background saying that the pc now qualifies for upgrading to Windows 11..... for now. I clicked on the little button down below which said back to Win 10, and it came back saying we recommend Windows 11. I'm shocked. What's up with that?

Apparently MS is getting more aggressive about pushing Windows 11.

But your CPU (Core 2 Duo E8400) definitely isn't on the supported list. If MS is relaxing their requirements, that'd be big news. Especially since newer 11 builds now show a watermark ("requirements not met") when installed on unsupported hardware.

The pc running Windows 10 is a different one from the one I have described under My computers. It’s also not supported. Anyway, I went ahead and did all the accepts for Windows 11. It said to go ahead and keep on working and it would do the upgrade in the background and then notify me when restarts were needed. After 4 hours and no restart notices, I performed a restart myself and when it came back up it was still running under Windows 10.

I did. Nothing there, just the same old note that this pc doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11. It looks like I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Cheer up, it could be worse.
Some people in TenForums are reporting automatic, involuntary updates to Windows 11.

All the best,

Amazing. At first I wondered if this was a virus because it booted with the Windows 11 logo and the 'Now unlocked' message..... just like on that website In post #2. But yeah, no problems running Window 10 here.

Dell Optiplex 3070 SFF Tower.
A quick check says that model comes with a Gen8 or Gen9 CPU. Those CPUs supported for 11. It also appears to have PTT (platform trust technology, Intel's firmware TPM).

At a guess, the model may be supported for Win11.

I messed up. It's an Optiplex 3010. I looked at it earlier under very low light under furniture and 10 looked like a 70. Sorry.

Definitely unsupported, then. (Gen 2 or 3 Intel CPU.)

Seems to be a bit of a "thing" going on, multiple posts in multiple forums about this happening.

General consensus is, though, when attempted, the update fails and the "warning" message on the update window goes back to the red-crossed non-compliance message.

The first screen I saw when I powered up the pc yesterday was the same one as in post #2 telling me that my that they had unlocked my pc and I could now upgrade to Windows 11. I finally accepted the offer and got to the point where they said to continue using the pc and that I would be prompted when restarts were needed. After many hours of no indication that an upgrade was indeed going on, I restarted the pc myself. It never left Windows 10, including what's always been on the WU page about the pc being incompatible.

So much for the unlocking. But not a problem as that pc is fine with Windows 10. I posted to see if others were also getting this, and it looks like that is the case. I am a little surprised that MS did not provide some kind of reason for not completing the upgrade, after all, all the agreements were accepted and all.

mackie, you could do the install of W11 on unsupported hardware ! I have around 25 people who did & love it but they couldn't afford a new PC so they are thrilled. If there is an interruption of it down the road we will deal with it when it comes, they said ! Have a great weekend everyone !!
