WIN 11 / WIN 10 dual boot

I join the address of Mrs. Margarethe Verstager (EU Commissioner for competition): Margrethe Vestager - European Commission
And here you can read the latest judgement of the EU Court of Justice against Google: Google loses challenge against EU antitrust ruling, $2.8-bln fine

2.8 billion euros !!! Think about it, Microsoft !

Speaking as someone who doesn't use MS apps anyway... that article seems like a bit of an over-reaction.
And I am by no means a fan of a lot of Microsoft's methods or directions.

If this move by Microsoft isn't affecting normal web access by 3rd party programs or necessary 1st party functions of the OS,
I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

Wow.. this comment/statement is simply untrue.. I was able to set Firefox as the default via the Firefox settings.. one time and it just works.

I have no idea where they're getting this from? Are they/him just claiming it to make using 11 harder than it is?
🤷‍♂️

There's some truth to the story. Certain web interactions can only be opened by Edge. Even if there is no reason to do so.

Wow.. this comment/statement is simply untrue.. I was able to set Firefox as the default via the Firefox settings.. one time and it just works.
View attachment 13390

I have no idea where they're getting this from? Are they/him just claiming it to make using 11 harder than it is?
🤷‍♂️

I'm pretty sure they are talking about the browser that some MS apps are set to use.
Try something like... MS store, maybe?
They mentioned links to things in Widgets, too.
I removed all the MS apps, so it's next to impossible for me to test.

This is all that's left of the MS apps on my setup, and the jury is still out on Power Automate and Windows Security. (they may have to go also).

I dunno. I'm just guessing. Like I said, there's almost nothing left to test with.
I removed the MS apps in Win 10 as well. I'm a big boy, I can find my own apps.

MS "offering" apps that they deem are in high demand is one thing. Forcibly including them in the OS...
Don't think so. :/

Itr almost seems like there's a small faction working at MS that has "good" ideas.
Make a "store"? Sure. Offer things people probably want? Sure.
Weld them into the OS... no thanks.

Well.. I checked them out and here is the two that have Edge as the default.
SHTML , FTP.

Seems like an overreaction to me, at least.

10 minutes after I installed Win 11 and Bitdefender, I blocked anything EDGE in the Bitdefender firewall.

Or to put it another way... the only things I let through the firewall are...

Firefox, svchost.exe, WAU Manager, and very occasionally Trusted Installer.
There's 5 other things that I only let through when needed, like Macrium updater for example.

My Bitdefender firewall rules. (firewall is set to "block everything" except when allowed by the rules)
This list is things that have asked to access the internet. The red dots I let through only when absolutely necessary.

Windows ain't the boss of me. :D

/edit

Almost forgot... VLC media palyer was very rude. Always whining about accessing the internet. Kept waking me up at night.
So, I deleted everything in it's install directory, except what was needed for the program to work...

These are the only things I left...
Image1.png

Haven't heard a peep out of it since.

This is what I removed. If VLC gets rowdy, I just show it these previously removed organs, and it calms right down again. :D

I think I must be living in a parallel universe! The opening message relates solely to a substantial EU fine imposed on 'GOOGLE' under unfair competition regulations over the use of its own search engine's price comparison shopping service to gain an unfair advantage over smaller European rivals. There is no mention of Microsoft, whatsoever, so can somebody please explain what in the Seven Kingdoms this has to do with Microsoft's Chromium-based Browser?

Microsoft was fined by the EU several years ago, under similar EU competition rules, for making it too awkward for users to install and use an alternative default browser to the now deprecated Internet Explorer. That problem was resolved and I haven't personally seen anyone provide any hard evidence that MS is in any way currently blocking the installation of any third party browsers or of actively preventing users from choosing an alternative default browser in any publicly released version of Windows 10/11.

Sorry, but as far as I can see this is just so much noise, with no concrete facts, and no firm evidence, so far, that Microsoft has failed to learn from past rulings on European competition rules. If anyone wants to point fingers perhaps they should be directing their criticism at the US Government for failing to keep its own money spinning private sector conglomerates under proper control.
