Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25357 to the Canary Channel.

REMINDER: As builds released to the Canary Channel are “hot off the presses,” we will offer limited documentation for builds flighted to the Canary Channel (no known issues for example), but we will not publish a blog post for every flight – only when new features are available in a build. And like the previous Canary Channel build, this build has a few new features and changes to document.

What’s new in Build 25357​

New Widget: Facebook​

Facebook is rolling out a preview version of their widget. To give it a try, download the Facebook app from the Microsoft Store or update to the latest version of the app. Then open the widgets board and navigate to the widgets picker by clicking the “+” button at the top-right of the board to pin your widget.

For developers​

You can download the latest Windows Insider SDK at aka.ms/windowsinsidersdk.

SDK NuGet packages are now also flighting at NuGet Gallery | WindowsSDK which include:
These NuGet packages provide more granular access to the SDK and better integration in CI/CD pipelines.

SDK flights are now published for both the Canary and Dev Channels, so be sure to choose the right version for your Insider Channel.

Remember to use adaptive code when targeting new APIs to make sure your app runs on all customer machines, particularly when building against the Dev Channel SDK. Feature detection is recommended over OS version checks, as OS version checks are unreliable and will not work as expected in all cases.

About the Canary Channel​

The Canary Channel is the place to preview platform changes that require longer-lead time before getting released to customers. Some examples of this include major changes to the Windows kernel, new APIs, etc. Builds that we release to the Canary Channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and some of the changes we try out in the Canary Channel will never ship, and others could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.

The builds that will be flighted to the Canary Channel are “hot off the presses,” flighting very soon after they are built, which means very little validation and documentation will be done before they are offered to Insiders. These builds could include major issues that could result in not being able to use your PC correctly or even in some rare cases require you to reinstall Windows. We will offer limited documentation for the Canary Channel, but we will not publish a blog post for every flight – only when new features are available in a build.

Our Canary Channel won’t receive daily builds; however, we may ramp up releasing builds more frequently in the future.

The desktop watermark you see at the lower right corner of your desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

I see that removing any USB drives before updating is still necessary. I left the drive I use to save my Macrium images on and the update failed. I don't need a Facebook Widget so I'm going to leave my desktop as it is.

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out why the last build couldn't of been just an update. Does anyone know what was added or fixed to require a new build? Please don't tell me it was the Facebook Widget that you still have to install the store app to use.

With the Canary builds, very few of the changes/updates are user-facing.
It's mostly kernel and other low-level improvements.

The Canary build I'm using as my main OS is very stable, more so than any of the other Win 11 releases, including the public releases.
This observation is, of course, anecdotal.

Whatever pain (or pleasure) you derive from the Insider Program is a result of your conscious (I hope) decision to be on the "cutting edge" of Windows development.

No matter the reason for enrolling, MS does owe insiders at least something as we are testing for them or they would have to have much larger and expensive teams for that job. Professional testers would have better skills and wouldn't make same mistakes as amateurs are apt to make so would be less effective.

This is not entirely true, I still remember that we were of our own free will on the DEV channel but that Microsoft forced us on the Canary channel without asking our opinion and with no possible backtracking except by reinstalling Windows this which also means the loss of time having to reinstall everything at the program level.

So no finding us on the Canary channel is not our decision

Me being a Windows Insider is free work done for MS. I'm here to help shape the future of Windows. I do this using my own spare time for free. I could be using this time for more useful and important things too.

Because of this MS should show some respect and not play us for fools. If they're wasting everybody's time, it does not take long before there are no insiders. Right now MS benefit more from our free efforts than we paying customers benefit from MS efforts.

There are always alternatives to Windows and within a snap of fingers everybody could suddenly be migrating away from MS ecosystem to something that benefits everybody more.

Never take anything for granted.

Today I was going to test out some WiDi/Miracast features (important test for a customer), but can't, because Miracast is broken on this build for no apparent reason.

I am considering moving back to Windows 10 or maybe Windows 11 stable/RP and test future experimental builds in VMs only. I might even drop out of IP entirely because disk space is a bit scarce atm. Still undecided though.

120GB won't get me anywhere. Besides I have a laptop I'm testing on so can't add another drive just like that, not to forget that it doesn't even have SATA. What I really need, is a 2-4TB NVMe drive, because the host itself already consume about 400GB of data in apps and SDKs 😂

Yes they do! The owe us their respect by releasing builds that include new features and/or improvements. They don't need us to test out new emojis or Facebook widgets that also need to install the store app to use. By us volunteering to be Insiders, we're not only saving Microsoft money but MS is getting real world test results

In the begining the Insider builds were on the cutting edge. With every new Insider leader the cutting edge has gone downhill. Now we're supposed to get excited about new emojis or new widgets. To me this is not cutting edge or the reason why I joined. As for me being in the Canary Channel, MS should have warned us before the Dev Channel was switched to the Canary Channel and not after it was too late.

I miss the days when it just took removing a few screws to get inside the laptop. I still have a very old HP laptop that I was able add a second HDD too. If I remeber correctly one drive has Vista and the other drive has Windows 7.

It's easy to get inside my laptop. I can add a second ssd too, but it has to be 2230. If/when I add that, it'll be dedicated for Linux which is more important for me than Windows dev builds.

If/when I upgrade the main ssd, it has to be at least 2TB or it is a useless upgrade. Even my phone has 512GB storage space and it's perfect for me.
