Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27943 to the Canary Channel.

Changes and Improvements​

[General]​

  • This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.

Fixes​

[General]​

  • Fixed the issue causing Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files to get stuck when scanning files. This issue also caused the entry to clean up previous Windows Installations to not show in Storage Settings.

[Taskbar]​

  • Fixed an issue where if you minimized an app and switched back and forth between desktops, you might end up seeing a duplicate preview thumbnail when hovering over the app in the taskbar.

[Display and Graphics]​

  • Fixed an issue which could result in HDR unexpectedly turning off immediately after you enabled it in Settings.

[Other]​

  • Fixed an issue causing an event saying “The “Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider” provider was not loaded because initialization failed” with error 57 to appear in Event Viewer for some Insiders after boot.
  • Fixed an issue where if you had to enter a PIN for your device to cast from Quick Settings, pressing Enter wouldn’t confirm the PIN.
  • Made another fix to help with Group Policy Editor having unexpected large blank areas and not rendering correctly with the Chinese display language.

Known issues​

[General]​

  • [IMPORTANT]Some Windows Insiders may experience a rollback attempting to install this build with either an 0xC1900101-0x20017 error or 0xC1900101-0x30017 error. Unfortunately retrying to install the build will result in another rollback. We are working on a fix.
  • [NEW] We’re working on the fix for an issue causing some Insiders with Arm64 PCs to experience an increase in bugchecks (green screens) with error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL in the latest Canary builds.

[For developers]​

  • PIX on Windows is unable to play back GPU captures on this OS version. This will be addressed by a new PIX release, estimated to arrive by the end of September. In the meantime, if you are impacted, you can use the “Send Feedback” button in PIX or contact us on the DirectX Discord server and we can help provide private builds.

[Graphics]​

  • We’re investigating an issue which is causing some Insiders to experience screen flickers when using the browser (and potentially other scenarios) in the latest Canary builds.

Stuck at 99% downloading for a long time, then back at 5%. Then finally moved to installing.?? 🤷‍♂️

Finally restarted and working on updates stuck at 0%. Slowly moved to 1% and 2% and stuck again.
This is the slowest update I have seen in a long time. Now showing 3%. 😝
I hope eventually it will get to completion. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️

Finally, it completed, it was pretty painful.

Tried a uupdump ISO 27943 and it shows the same problems as the previous 3 builds. Fails to update Apps from the Store and fails to open many common Apps.

Updating a second machine with Windows Update, which works without the problems of the uupdump ISO. 🤞🤷‍♂️

Had to download and update several machines with Windows update, because the uupdump ISO is no good and causes several different problems. 🤬🤷‍♂️

Hi folks
Still shows version DEV even after the update. Adding optional features (I always go for the openssh server -- start the service after adding the feature and several of the extra fonts plus windows storage management, tpm diagnostics and windows scan and fax) -- usually adding these takes a long time -- now very quick.

So far no silly defects with this build on my system. Office 2021 still OK too - no probs there and Networking is "playing ball" for once with access to other local windows and linux NAS servers.

Also works perfectly as a VM on Fedora rel 43 host using QEMU/KVM virtualisation -- almost as fast as a physical machine

This canary build for me is as good as it gets for Windows 11 that I've seen in loads of recent builds --(still doesn't though beat Windows server with desktop experience - but that's another topic).

I'm not sure what changes have been made under the hood but IMO performance and fixing defects are far more important than "eye candy" effects if you use your computer for work rather than a recreational tool.

Still that perennial complaint though with that wretched 265 char limitation of path,file,directory lengths --- this though is the fault of applications using the OLD API when prompting and displaying browsing panels / selections rather than Windows itself. File explorer should now be changed as well as it STILL uses the old API and presents Dos 8.3 format for names longer than 265 chars.

With large capacity disks available the 266 char limit is easily reached !!!!

I'm using a lot of Disk storage on this NAS !!!

Canary build is supposed to trail blaze new features, accepting they might be buggy and may never get into release version.

The primary intent is to see how (somewhat radical) new features land with Insiders.

Where is the Innovation - a build with minor changes not even worth mentioning and paltry bug fixes is truly pathetic.

I reckon it is only worth installing updates every few months now.

Sadly, MS have clearly lost the plot on what Canary is supposed to achieve. This is a trend started by Dona Kebab and carried on by the composite entity AmandaBruce.

If the OS can work more efficiently and have far fewer defects and regression problems then that's surely worth it first -- then let's add new features. This release judging by the serial number was just a "technical minor one" where no real major features were slated for inclusion but probably did have a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff improved. Get that right and then lets have all the other innovation people want.

OK they should have done that first - but better late than never.

I agree with your sentiment but sometimes I think you are a bit too harsh. Windows for all its faults runs on around 80% of world wide computers and with users of absolutely all ends of "computer know how" -- considering all that and with current world wide uncertainty over international trade, co-operation, supply chains of materials required for hardware etc I don't really think they do a bad job. Of course everybody wants better -- we wouldn't be human if we didn't.

Anyway I for one am happy with this latest Canary build which certainly seems to have got Networking and a lot of performance issues sorted out. At least on W11 Pro and W11 Enterprise.

Problems if I try using an ISO created from uupdump. Tried on different machines with the same issues.
Same problems with uupdump for the last 3 Canary Builds. 😝🤷‍♂️
