Just tried again today on one of my machines and did not get any problem with the normal W.U.
I never got the problem before anyway on 4 different machines.

If they fixed anything they sure did not explain what was causing the bug originally. We'll probably never know.

It all reads a bit as if the problem was either irrecoverable by a normal small update or patches or it would need to much investigation to get a universal fix out in time to stop the release timeline being thrown off.

Just my take on it

May I know how to get this (repair version)?
If win11 auto update, It is still the original 26120.461 buggy version.

You cannot download it for yourself. The 'repair version' is only available if you choose to fix problems through Windows Update. If you do so it would download and install a repair version of the same build as you are currently running. See Option One here.....

You are aware that your 26100.268 was a Dev channel build, and that 26200.5001 is the Canary channel? Did you intend to switch to the Canary build?

Well, I didn't check for updates on my 26100.268 build until today, and it has been failing to install 10.0.26120.461 (ge_release) repeatedly. Been trying for the last 3 hours.

I went back and made the adjustments in the registry for those three entries that @Tekkie Boy posted way back, and as soon as I did, it took the update and is ready to reboot.

I'll go back to his post and mark it as Great Support on account of this.

This worked for me today, after failing to install it with multiple attempts at other troubleshooting, including, but not limited to, resetting WU per Additional resources for Windows Update - Windows Client

Yes, Tekkie Boy's registry fix works for many, but not for all of us. For mine he found further things that were missing, but we never got as far as fixing them all.

Yeah, I read the thread entirely already. And today's release of a fix from Microsoft did not work for me. And neither did a ton of troubleshooting.

I used his method as a last resort, as all those keys he lists were set to .268 instead of .1 - I literally changed those 6 keys and it took the update.

I just built the VMs a couple of weeks ago, and my initial snapshot was of the .268 build, I did not make a snapshot to the prior build (my own fault for not making the baseline snapshot - I figured I wanted a stable fully updated build to snapshot from).

My 26100.268 was a Dev channel, I didn't aware it switch to Canary channel and update to 26200.5001. I only selected option-1 as mentioned.

Tekkie Boy fix.reg (he worked a special version for me) however, after update to 26120.461, it has virtual machine platform and WSA issue, that I fallback again to 26100.268. Anyway thanks to him for all work.
