Windows 11 installed without all partitions?

As an aside, from the DiskParInfo.log, this is concerning!
I haven't run Windows Memory Diagnostics since reinstalling Windows, where did it get this info?
My 128gb RAM passed MemTest86 with no issues, should I be worried? =D

Question for y'all, do you know if it is possible to image part of a partition and exclude parts of it?
I plan to image my system drive frequently, however it is 4TB. Much of what will be on there will be downloaded stuff (including programs) I can easily replace and don't want to hog space in a backup. Thanks!

For that to happen, during a clean install, the other drives must be disconnected.



If it was me... I'd disconnect all the drives... put the 4TB where the 2TB is.
Then do a clean install of Windows, which will give you your four partitions.





Then...... connect the other drives.

As to your other questions about Macrium...

You can... make a backup of... certain files and folders, a single partition, a whole disk or just the partitions required to boot Windows.
You can also clone and do Incremental or Differential backups.


I refer you again, to this topic.. [the manual for MR is 485 pages and you'll have to read some of them]




For Windows 11...

The minimum you need to boot Windows, are the Windows partition and the EFI System partition.
So your backups should have both of those partitions, and they should be on the same Disk.
That will make Macrium happy.

For Windows 11 happiness... it's best to have all four of the partitions... on the same Disk.
After you get used to Win 11, you can get... creative.
In the beginning though... just do it the right way. Things will be easier in the long run, if you do.

I have have a desktops with more than >3 SSDs

At present I have 2 windows 1) Working and 2) Practice on 2 separate SSD.

Before installing windows Practice I would make a Macrium backup image of #1 on a third MBR disk.

I then booted with EASU bootable usb disk and deleted the first to partitions in #1 windows 11

I then installed Win 11practise on the second disk. Follow this by installing Macrium. I Run macrium and copy the first partitions from the image on the third disk to win 11 working disk

I would now have 2 windows with their own boot menu on 2 separate SSD.

Start my computer with F8 (ASUS) on my computer and would see the 2 windows on 2 separate disk. I would go into the bios and make Windows # 1 as first boot.

Small thread hi-jack ... because I am in the opposite situation ... 3 system disks, all with the required partitions, bcd on the system partition(s) as well as EFI partitions.

I was using the bootrec to rebuild the bcd ... and it was complaining with “The requested system device cannot be identified due to multiple indistinguishable devices potentially matching the identification criteria".

I would like to work with only one bcd ... have the PC boot using that and then a menu to control which system actually gets started. How should I go about resolving the multiple indistinguishable devices?

I'm assuming you dual/triple boot. Is that right? If so, and all you want is a menu to choose an OS at boot, you might try EasyBCD. Take a look at its screenshots and documenttion to make sure it will do what you want.

thx Glasskuter - I have a 3-way boot (all Win11) and I am using cli bcdedit. My PC boots if I have 1 entry but hangs in a boot / menu / boot loop if I have more than 1.

@RuffHi A boot loop definitely points to an issue with your boot configuration data. It will take someone better than me at using bcdedit commands to help you on this. Sorry. So as not to interfere in this thread, I suggest you start your own thread with a title of something like "Boot loop using triple boot-BCD issue" Include a screenshot of disk management and all the information you have given me. Thanks.

No need to copy the contents of the original esp to the new. just populate the new esp with bcdboot commands.

simplest way is to use 3rd party partition manager.
shrink the os partition from the left by at least 150mb
create esp and msr partitions in that 150mb unallocated space
populate the esp partition with bcdboot command.

optional:
at admin cmd
reagentc /disable

then shrink os partition from the right by about 1gb
create ms recovery partition in that 1gb unallocated space

at admin cmd prompt:
reagentc /enable

Thanks - I will do that. Taking a week off and will gather the info and post something when I get back.
