hi all,

I have recently upgraded to Windows 24 H2 - the upgrade was successful. However I use third-party file managers (dual pane) I also use a search utility Everything. these are very useful. From time to time I need the right click context menus. However in these third party applications since the upgrade there is only program crash for these applications. Windows explorer of course works absolutely perfectly.

My question is is there a potential fix for how to re-energise the right click context menu in 24H2. A second question is it only my machine That is having this problem. Everything seems to be up and running sfc /scannow returned all in order. I was wondering what else I might try.

Hi telepro21,

Thanks for the quick resp[onse... I have tried these but to no avail. Even had three hours with an MS support person yesterday tinkering. I have yet to find out whether it is simply my machine on Windows24H2 - (a glitch/in the registry or API/shell extensions or a conflict with other software.... or somehting that is affecting others with the 24H2 update. If it is the latter maybe the next patch will fix it - if it is the former - I must ponder deeper.

It's not 24H2, it's those 3rd party apps. You should look to see it there are updated versions of them to cope with changes in 24H2.

Other such 3rd party apps that modify the Windows GUI, when broken after the upgrade, have been reported as being fixed just by uninstalling then reinstalling them. Worth a try....

I just put the portable version of Everything on a Notebook with Version 24H2 and the right-click works to give the Properties of a file.

Out of curiosity, did you run OOSU10? I had the same issue happen after I ran it.

To disable all context menu shell extensions in Everything:
Copy and paste the following into your Everything search box:
/context_menu_shell_extensions=0
Press ENTER in your Everything search box.
If successful, context_menu_shell_extensions=0 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.

It provides a rightclcik (not perhaps the big one you used to have- but is seems to hold that up - meanwhile I am using the new fangled windoes explorer - and clciking two or three tabs - so I have three panes - though slightly more cumbersome than the old dual panes. I began with Norton Commander in DOS in the 1980s... moved to EF Commander in its early days. I guess this old dog will have to learn new tricks until somehting is done.
