OS
Windows 11 for Workstations
I can't open a file (README.txt) by double-clicking it!

I get:

Cant open.jpg

Really odd - I can open it by right click and selecting open with Notepad++

Open Settings (Win+I) and go to "Apps" -> "Default Apps" scroll to the bottom and pick "Choose defaults by file type"... in the search at the top, type "txt" and make sure that text files are still associated with Notepad++ or whatever other program you want/need.

Open with shows *TWO* notepad options - the 2nd one worked!

Two notepads.jpg
Associating .txt with the Notepad entry in Apps "Choose defaults by file type"... to the one with same icon as the 2nd one seems to have fixed the issue.

I've no clue how this oddity came about!

There are two versions of notepad, the original supplied with Windows and the newer Store version, I imagine somehow you have both on your system, how this has caused the issue I am blank on though. :D

Well the newer version was built to be easily installed/ uninstalled/ replaced and updated independant of the OS.
