Solved Windows Hypervisor Platform?

Hi,

Should WHP be checked during it's installation?

And is there an option, later to install or uninstall it in VMWare player's settings?

Approx. how much of memory and disk space needs to be allocated, to run isos/ distros?

Hoping to hear from you experts.

I get this error on startup, attaching as a screen capture.

Provided link, takes me here, where there are no option for Advanced VMWare player16, only for Workstation Pro, how does one fix it?

Am trying to test run a Linux distro from a USB flash.

Your question is not easy to answer. To understand, you need a much deeper appreciation of difference between type 1 hyper-visors and type 2.

A couple of years ago vmware would not run if Hyper-V (and hence the type 1 hypervisor was enabled).

Now the answer is more complicated as you can run VMWare (using its type 2 hypervisor which sits on top of windows, even if the type 1 hypervisor is enabled, but performance is really poor.

So simple answer is to turn off the windows hypervisor but if you do, you cannot run hyper-v.

This is a pretty good articlethat explains things.

Fix: VMmware Workstation and Hyper-V are Not Compatible

Incompatibility is caused by Hyper-V because virtualization extensions are not exposed to type 2 hypervisors installed on a Windows machine with Hyper-V.

Thanks for the reply. Turning it off cannot be redone...if correct, than is of no use. Maybe would give Vbox a try.

Would purchasing the Pro resolve the issue?

Huh - of course you can turn it off from add features menu.

IF turned Off, can it be redone turned ON again?

The pic shown in this link has different features vs. those on my laptop, cause it's running W11 Home? and those from W10 or W11 Pro?

Why the discrepancies? Mine Windows Hyperversior platform has none sub components as in the link's.....

Any you would recommend checking or unchecking?

You do not have hyperV in home. Just try turning of Windows Hypervisor platform and see what happens. It is totally reversible.

Really rather than asking questions, make an image backup and just try things. Worst case scenario is you have to restore backup.

It's like driving a car - you can be the best in world at theory, but that is meaningless until you actually try driving the car.

Thanks. I had a feeling but later got confirmed that Home doesn't have Hyer-V.

I have checked/unchecked WHP (in Home ver.) asked for a reboot. Tries to install some update, other than that works fine, stable error free either way.

I am thinking about upgrading to the Pro version, for VMWare to run.

Is the upgrade a good idea?

does the Pro has more features vs. Home?

VMWare should run on home version. Check virtualization enabled in BIOS.

Is Pro better than Home, it's not about money or security, it's about features, performance. Would you recommend doing a upgrade?

Personally am not satisfied by its memory usage, on startup alone uses 4, which doubles with apps, docs, browser tabs.....

If in your expert opinion you feel upgrading is a goody idea, which version should I upgrade to?

I've always upgraded to Pro just for bitlocker and Windows Sandbox. The availability of gpedit. Don't use the other features so might not be worth it for you? Up to you really.

I'm confused myself, I don't bother about bitlocker etc., MS sales rep. recommended saying it has more features (in general) a better display, performance and option to run VMWare?

And again would take me a week after upgrading to clean install Pro.....

VMWare will run in Windows Home.
Anyway this might be worth a Look.

I'll repeat again, VMWare will run in Windows Home. VMware Workstation needs that Hardware Visualization is enabled on the host system. This capability is available on the majority of PCs nowadays. However, it is possible that it is disabled in the BIOS so you might have to check.

That earlier link was really a small hint of how to upgrade to Pro on the cheap if you wish to try it. Making sure to have an image created beforehand in case something goes wrong. Good luck

Virtualization was enabled by default, but was having issues running it, so uninstalled it. I am upgrading to Pro.

A few questions after upgrade:

1. Will the Pro over Home have any conflicts?

2. Do I need to clean install, later just to have clean OS?

3. Would you recommend installing VMWare player on Pro OR use the Pro's default virtual machine?

The upgrade is fine. No need to clean install later. I never have conflicts running VMware Player on Pro. Never did when I had Home either. I use VMware Player on my laptops without issues. It's your decision which VM to use. I'm just used to VMware Player and continue to use it.
