The upgrade is fine. No need to clean install later. I never have conflicts running VMware Player on Pro. Never did when I had Home either. I use VMware Player on my laptops without issues. It's your decision which VM to use. I'm just used to VMware Player and continue to use it.

I too would like running VMware player on Pro.
Like you recommended to create a full back up of Home, just in case.
Would run Pro for a few days, if all looks good fine, else would do a clean install...
