Windows 11
Hi everyone,

So I recently purchased a Dell XPS 15 with the below configuration

Windows 11
Core i7 i7-11800H
32GB ram
Nvidia GTX 3500ti
1tb SSD

I occasionally do a little bit of light gaming time to time, namely CSGO and I noticed that when I play with the PC plugged in I get between 150 to 300 FPS which is great.

However, when I play CSGO on battery mode, FPS are locked at 30fps. It's obviously being throttled or locked it's capable of running CSGO at 150+fps when plugged in.

So I'm guessing that this has something to do with power saving when in battery mode but I'm not sure which option I need to change.

What I've done so far is go to App>Display>Graphics and set CSGO to High performance in the list

It didn't fix the issue, I'm still throttled at 30fps in battery mode.

Any idea what option I should change to get my laptop to run games at full steam?

Thanks

RIght-click the Start button, click Power Options then click Gaming, might take some experimentation for the best performance. Most all Laptops/Notebooks tend to throttle the power when on battery only, lengthens the running capacity of the machine.

Thanks for your reply.
Right-click the start button then power options take me to Power & Battery settings.
I don't see any gaming option on that page.
There is a power mode option thought that was set to Best Power Saving, which I changed to Best Performance but CSGO is still throttled at 30 fps.

Could it be this?
Going by the name, it looks like when the power management is on it's limiting PCI express bandwidth which in turn could be limiting the GPU performance?

I turned it off on battery mode but still throttled at 30fps

I ran out of ideas. No idea what could be doing this

I've never owned a laptop with an Optimus setup.

If you have the nVidia control panel installed, I believe that there's a setting in it to force the nVidia GPU to be used all the time, rather than switching between the integrated one and the nVidia one.

May be worth a try.
