Windows PC really slow, painfully slow - problem solved!

Your speed problem with a Windows 10/11 machine (2022 or later) is probably not your machine or your Operating System. It's your Internet Service Provider (looking at you, Verizon), which has poorly implemented / released IPV6. Good intentions, poor execution. Turn off IPV6 under your network settings and your machine will be instantly faster (no need to restart).

Simply not true on my end, Albeit all my hardware is from pre 2022 but win 11 since day one none the less. 0 impact here.

True, especially with Wi-Fi, but Windows will still use IPv6, you might want to go all the way (+uncheck all except IPv4):

If the issue was indeed poor implementation of IPv6, then it would be slow on internet, not everywhere. It doesn't make too much sense.

Green loading bar in explorer. This is what started my tweaking journey, it was indeed caused by network.
It did not get any better in Windows 11. NCSI (active probing) does not help either, forcing OS to reconnect.

It sure solved problem with every single notebook I ever had. Besides IPv6 is a security/privacy/VPN nightmare.

Rather than disabling IPv6 totally, you can have Windows prefer IPv4 over IPv6.
Disabling IPV6 used to be an issue with the early 'metro' apps, I don't think it's the case anymore.

What if you take your laptop away and connect to a different ISP such as in an internet cafe? You could also make your smartphone a hotspot and connect to that and test, if the provider is different.

Thanks for the suggestion OAT. If we all disabled IPv6, that would be bad. We would run out of IP addresses. I just reverted to IPv6 by rechecking the box, then backed up my registries, and finally changed my registery setting to Prefer IPv4 over IPv6 by following the directions on the Microsoft page. You have to run command prompt as administrator, btw. It's nice and fast now without disabling IPv6. This will give Verizon and other ISPs more time to fine-tune their gear. Done!
