During Windows installation, users should be able to choose profiles such as Gaming, Creator, Enterprise, Developer, or Lightweight.

Each profile should install only the necessary services, drivers, background tasks, and compatibility layers based on the user's needs.

For example, gamers and creators do not need many enterprise services or legacy components running in the background.

This could improve:

  • system responsiveness
  • frametime stability
  • RAM usage
  • input latency
  • overall Windows performance
Many users move to systems like AtlasOS or Tiny11 because they want a lighter and more optimized Windows experience.

Modern PCs are powerful, but Windows feels heavier over time due to unnecessary background services, telemetry, and legacy components.

A modular Windows architecture would improve both performance and user experience.

There’s nothing stopping a non-Microsoft person from doing this.

Speaking as a developer myself, I don’t even know what a developer profile would be. I work with other devs in an IT department, and I don’t think any two of us configure our machines the same way.

Also, the “works on my machine” problem is bad enough, without creating some other dev configuration.

Exactly. Windows has become a “one system fits all” platform for gamers, creators, businesses, schools, and servers at the same time.

The problem is that modern users have very different needs now. A gamer doesn’t need the same background services and components as an enterprise workstation.

That’s why a modular setup could make Windows feel lighter, faster, and more focused without breaking compatibility.

That’s a fair point, especially for developers. Everyone has different workflows and toolchains.

The idea isn’t to lock users into fixed configurations, but to provide optimized starting points during setup.

For example:

  • Gaming could prioritize low latency and reduced background activity
  • Creator could focus on rendering and creative workflows
  • Enterprise could prioritize security and management tools
Users would still be able to customize everything afterward.

The goal is mainly to reduce unnecessary components and background services for people who want a lighter and more focused Windows experience.

That’s actually part of the reason I made this suggestion.

So many people already use debloat tools, custom ISOs, registry tweaks, AtlasOS, Tiny11, and optimization scripts because they want Windows to feel lighter and more focused for their own use case.

The problem is that unofficial tweaks can sometimes break updates, stability, compatibility, or security.

An official modular setup from Microsoft could provide a cleaner and safer solution while still keeping full Windows compatibility.

11 setup actually offers something like that, but it does absolutely nothing. MS has given up on 11 entirely.
