Hi folks
Does a Windows 11 VM on Hyper-V need to have a permanately attached usb printer -- I can't seem to attach a wifi printer (driver installs but print queue just disappears). I don't want to connect via USB as this needs to be shared.

Cheers

Are you using an external switch - vm needs to be on same subnet as host.

Hi there
Host / Guest have same subnet, communication both ways is fine -- external switch is fine.

Works 100% with USB but can't get Wifi printer to work -- Printer is epson ET-2810 eco tank model (excellent BTW for up to A4 size) and very economical.

Driver and printer detected -- so no prob there - but I just can't get any print output !!! - Could be a Windows thing -- but running the equivalent VM on a physical machine -- printer is fine. Windows shows no problem with print queues etc. One clue is that when I try and run the "utilities" that show for example the amount of ink remaining - I just get blanks !!!.

Well I have just tested printing over wifi to my Brother laser printer from a vm - it works fine with an external switch.

Go to your printer port settings in the vm - most use a WD port these days.

If that does not work, try to reinstall the network printer using latest installation files as a test in the vm (using external switch). This will also update the printer drivers.

Also, do you get same issue with other printers?

I'll try again in the morning -- thanks for the WD port tip though.

I meant WSD ports.
That's fine -- we all do typos

Anyway it's working now -- I actually installed as a "Network printer" which worked. So problem solved !!
