AOMEI has emailed asking us to review this free file recovery utility of theirs, as we don't do reviews I normally just delete these sorts of requests, however, free file recovery software could be useful to some of you guys and I've never seen this one mentioned, so here's a link, take a look.

Like all the free ones, they only recover files. The more useful feature to recover lost partitions is still a premium feature with AOEMI.

I PM'd him on TF with this link. :)

My wish is that MS just get off their lazy arses and do some new developing - bring stuff like DISM into the 20th century - those API's need to be rewritten (even as UWP ones) and a GUI done - same for other legacy stuff.

As Bree mentioned in his post #7 it is indeed "a GUI front end to make it easier to use the Microsoft Windows File Recovery app" available in Microsoft Store using the command line winfr source-drive:destination-drive:[/mode] [/switches].

WinfrGUI is written by an individual programmer and not by brand AOMEI. I do not know why AOMEI wants it to be reviewed.

There are many undelete programs available. I have been using Glary Utilities for a long time, and hence I normally recommend the "Restore deleted files" in Glary Utilities.

19-04-2022 11-31-34.jpg

How does it compare with this WinfrGUI program?

I ran both the "Restore deleted files"from Glary utilities and WinfrGUI on my F: Audio drive .Both found 9 deleted audio files.

While Glary Utilities shows all deleted files with their status, it gives me an option to recover the files I want to recover. WinfrGUI writes all the recovered files to a destination folder.

By its very nature these undelete programs will work only if a partition with drive letter exists.

You are right. When I click on "About" in the program it shows the copyright is held by AOMEI International Netwok Limited

19-04-2022 15-41-59.jpg

When I click on "Help" at the end of the Get started guide in Help Center - WinfrGUI it states

19-04-2022 16-01-37.jpg

May be there is some sort of legal agreement between the individual developer and AOMEI to promote the software.. But it is very clear that for any suggestions the individual has to be reached.

I'm betting they bought it / hired the dev.

I used the native Windows CLI tool to much success in recovering all that data I (well, the Windows Media Creation Tool, but thanks to my non-observant commands) erased from my old HDD a couple of years ago. Between that and TestDisk / PhotoRec, I'm good with recovery apps.

Well.. if so, very unprofessional... but hey, I'm no AOMEI fan, I know @SIW2 is, so ... LOL

I'm going to guess that all of this discussion is directed to HDD drives. SSD drives, when the file is deleted, it's gone forever. Correct?

How is it " Very Unprofessional" ?
They wanted something, They bought it/Hired the dev, Whats very unprofessional about buying software or EMPLOYING someone to make the program for you. FYI companies hire dev's to make programs etc. I genuinely don't get how it is unprofessional lol

I discovered something about WinfrGUI.
I had installed Winfr before but forgot I uninstalled it then installed WinfrGUI and ran it and it looked like it was doing something. After a day trying to recover files there was nothing in the folder.
WinfrGUI does not check if Winfr is installed.

Wait, So this is a GUI front end only tool for a CLI tool that doesn't check for the presence of the CLI tool it needs in order to function?????

Great job, AOMEI. Great job.
