I am new to all this. My Windows 11 Dell computer is working OK but my Windows 10 HP is giving me trouble with the "much hated" Eudora webmail. One of you (B7ANz) solved someone's problem in the past and I am hoping he or she could help me with a problem. I would gladly discuss it off line if that is preferrable. I cannot send mail. I can receive and have all the mailboxes and the history after reinstalling the OS but cannot send. Feel free to ignore this request if it is out-of-line but I have tried everything I can and this is what remains.

Any email client will have an IMAP or POP3 configuration (how you receive email) and a SMTP configuration (how you send email), so by your problem description you likely have a bad SMTP configuration. To that point what is the error you receive when attempting to send email?

Eudora 7.1 POP3 and Tin.it: I can't send mail. help!!

Hi, I use Eudora 7.1 for POP3 mail and for a while I can't send mail. I get an error. Don't ask me to change Eudora because I can't. Up until a month ago I could do everything, now I can only receive mail but not send it. Can you please check if my configuration is correct? Thank you!

They gave up developing Eudora almost 20 years ago! Why not consider using something else?

Seems like after the Commodore 64, and a 300 baud modem, I've tried every email program that's come down the pike.
I can sympathize with you when you say, the "much hated" Eudora. That should be enough to make you try something else.
One major problem I had with Eurora, was, every time my AV program would do a scan, it would declare Eudora a Virus and delete it.
Oh yes, I even tried Outlook, Thunderbird and half a dozen others, until the day a friend turned me on to "O.E.Classic".
For years, Outlook Express and later Windows Mail (Vista) were my favorite email programs.
O.E.Classic is just like Outlook Express, on Steroids. Gawd, I LOVE it!!!

So if you were ever an Outlook Express fan, give O.E.Classic a look.

To move from one e-mail application to another he must first backup all his data. Is there an easy way to backup all your e-mails (received, sent and others) and import to the new application? A friend of mine was using Mozilla Thunderbird and wanted to migrate to Microsoft Outlook. As far as I remember there is no such thing like "Export" in Thunderbird. It was rather complicated to take the data from the original Thunderbird files and convert them to a format that can be imported in Outlook. Nightmare! That's why I don't like using third-party applications and I insist on Microsoft Outlook (formerly Outlook Express and Windows Mail) and Microsoft Edge (formerly Internet Explorer). To get all the features missing from the third-party applications and maximize compatibility making migration to newer versions easier.

Just remembered! Do you have Gmail or other online e-mail? This could explain this behavior. It is not due to your SMTP settings, it is due to new stricter authentication method incompatible with older e-mail applications. A couple of years ago Google changed the basic authentication to the new 2-way (I don't remember the proper term) authentication. This is incompatible with older applications such as Microsoft Outlook 2010. At first you could go at security settings in your Google account and disable checking for older applications, essentially allowing access to your e-mails from any e-mail application with the proper configuration. However, a few months after that Google disabled this setting forcing the new authentication method and essentially making older applications unable to send e-mails. Unless there is some update or patch for the old application making it compliant, there is no workaround other than upgrading to a newer version. This might be your case. Your SMPT settings are correct but your are prevented to connect to the SMPT server to send e-mails because of your old e-mail application. Google to find out if you can export your data to a format you can import to your new application. If you have Microsoft Office 2013 or newer I recommend using Outlook.

PS: I found this, but I don't know how good it is: Eudora to Outlook Converter to Export Eudora Mail to Outlook PST there are other utilities too, just Google.

It's the best email client EVER. Even in 2024. I've tried several other email programs and they STINK by comparison.
