Hello,

I would like to add a thunderbolt 3 port to my Dell XPS 8690 machine. It is running with Windows 11 pro.

Is it as simple as adding a thunderbolt 3 PCIe card?

I believe that your system needs top have BIOS support for Thunderbolt and only a PCIe card designed for your specific system will work. If I am incorrect in this belief, I'm sure that someone will let me know.

As an example, I have an ASUS motherboard which does not have built-in thunderbolt but ASUS has a specific PCIe adapter for this motherboard as well as settings for thunderbolt built into the BIOS. But I have to use the ASUS card, I cannot simply drop in a card from another manufacturer.
