Is there anyway to stop WU overwriting latest version Radeon drivers with older ones?

What Edition, Pro?
If you have Pro there is a group policy setting.

Run gpedit.msc

navigate to:

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update -> Manage Updates offered from Windows Updates -> Do not include Drivers with Windows Update

Enable it.

Yeah sorry, Pro. I'll do the gpedit path now. Control Panel - System - advanced - still has the old W10 way but it didn't stop it

Was your Radeon Software not opening, complaining of a driver mismatch? I just opened Device Manager and rolled back the display driver. Windows Update hasn't attempted to update my driver since.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022.

How does one make it so it offered those drivers as a optional update so you have to select it to install and doesn't force install?

No idea. It is that way for me with the AMD graphics drivers, although they may have installed over newer drivers once.

It kept doing that to me with the Intel UHD Windows 11 supported WHQL drivers. Intel said just install the new version over the old ones except the Intel installer always uninstalls the older version before installing the new ones. So basically everytime Intel releases a new Windows 11 supported driver that is WDDM 3.0 and Windows 11 supported, Windows Update will downgrade it back to the 27.xx WHQL version and then I have to reinstall the version it overwrote and then I never see it get downgraded until the next time Intel releases a new version.

No, I ran the Radeon software anf it told me there was sn update.

I installed the latest driver from Radeon but WU update would always overwrite it with an older driver then the Radeon software would warn me it was not compatible with the older driver. I was as you do, roll back the driver to the newer but in my case WU did this everytime until I used the gpedit fix. Now the current driver stays put as WU doesn't check it

Are actually newer than the one direct from AMD (21.8.2) and supports the newer WDDM 3.0. Most in that thread find the UWP driver to be better than the one from AMD as well.
