OS
Windows 10
This started showing up when I upgraded to Win 11. It's on my personal laptop at home - using Firefox 94
and I cannot update?? There are old threads relating to the registry and policies and how to delete this but
none pertaining to Win 11 Home. Further, there is no Firefox entry under policies in the Win 11 registry.
Where did it come from and How do I remove it so that I can update Firefox

The parent key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla. According to instructions I found, you can delete the Firefox child key or the entire Mozilla key. Avast and AVG are notorious for causing this error. I'm not fond of either of them. I used Avast for years before it became so invasive. If you feel you have to have a third party antivirus, Malwarebytes is a better option (paid) or for a free one choose Avira. When installing Avira, pay attention when choosing which elements to install.

I have neither - I just use Windows Defender for security with an occasional run from the free Malwarebytes. None the less, thanks for the advice - I'll try it out and report back

Well this is interesting - under HKLM\Software\Policies I do not have Mozilla. It is separated and under the Software key. What now????

So I took the "cowards way out". Deleted everything Mozilla with Revo Uninstaller Pro and then everything Mozilla in the registry. Reinstalled Firefox (this time the newest version from Mozilla)
and problem is solved.

Couple years ago I went through that on my old laptop with Firefox when I switched from Avira to Avast. The statement was at the top of the 'Settings' page. At the time - I didn't recall details - it was something about the AV needing permissions to take control of some browser components, but the issue caused nothing very interesting and the cure really didn't change anything significant, so I ignored it.

I am 3 weeks on a new W11 laptop, not using Avast, and still learning about W11; and I bow to the remarkably knowledgeable folks here on this forum.

I don't use Edge very much, but I noticed recently that I was seeing this following message.
Your browser is managed by your organization

I just went to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft
And deleted the "Edge" key.

I didn't need to do the alternative method described in the above article.
