Solved I installed visual studio 2022, then installed visual studio 2015 but vs 2015 not appears in installed programs?

Here’s a .NET Rocks episode about converting to VB.NET, with Francesco Balena.

Ohh. Thanks for that. I have some old VB6 files that I have to convert too. If they can run under .NET that is even better. Then I can do it with VS 2022.

@sdowney717 Is VS 2022 not capable of importing the VB6 files? I haven't tried yet, but it seems to me that it should. You will probably get tons of errors in your code, I would assume, but it should be able to import and save the files as a Visual Studio project. I'll play around tonight and see what I can do. I have VS 2010 and VS 2012 as well, and I will try those too.

Start over or just uninstall C++ redistributables?
Very confused now.

Add remove which version of what exactly??

These redistributable go down all the way to 2008

Maybe I have to uninstall the 2015-2022 ones???
Then reinstall VS 2015 again??
What happens with VS 2022 community then??

ok, still saying vs 2015 not showing up as installed.

Maybe you can not have vs 2015 and vs 2022 installed at the same time on the same PC?
Programmers have done dumb stuff like that before.
It may be I have to uninstall everything related to VS and the related redistributables and start over with only vs 2015?

Anyone have any experience installing in my situation VS? See I am just wasting a lot of time with it.

I don't think it is, that is why I installed the visx vbtools add on for vs2015.
If you can figure this out, please let me know what to do.

Nah, you definitely can have multiple versions. I even installed them in reverse order, like you did.

ok, I suppose I can experiment like uninstall the distributables, then do another repair install,
If that does not work uninstall everything and install 2015
You know, I don't think I am special here or unique regards this issue, I think it happens to others too.

I was wondering if it takes forever to try to install 2015 version properly cause it sees something funny about 2022.
It really does take like 40 minutes to do a 2015 install, and I think that is bizarre. 2022 whenever I got that on here was not a huge, long time like that from what I recall. I also though don't particularly start paying attention until things start to go south like they are here.

And the first time I installed 2015, it gave no redistributable errors.

The C++ redistributables you already have are newer than the ones 2015 wants to install. That's why it's mentioned. It doesn't seem to me so much of an error, more like a "hey, heads up."

after the repair install, it still does not appear in an un-installable configuration.
so something is still not right with it, IMO.

Top menu option for VB
it imports code but where are the forms and windows?
, and build fails.
I am not familiar with VS

I don't think this extension does any conversion. Maybe if you buy a license, but the domain name doesn't seem to point to anything anymore, so you probably can't get one. :)

The extension adds the VB-CLASSIC menu item to the development environment; this menu allows us to load classic VB workspace- and project-files and offers quick access to the extension´s options. This is not a converter nor another VB6 upgrade wizard. The import tool creates a new solution and MSBuild compatible projects. The project system synchronizes all changes made to a project with the corresponding VBP file; this allows us to use this toolset in parallel with the Visual Basic 6 IDE.

If you want to do the conversion in Studio itself, without third-party add-ons, you probably need 2008 or earlier.

not certain, but beginning to think I would have to recreate all new forms to use the 'imported code'
Create a new project then you get a form to put controls on the form.

ToolBox, has nothing to do as there is no form, just a bunch of code.
I really don't plan to recreate 30 some forms full of controls to do this right now.

I'm not sure if you read post 35, but I posted a quote from the extension's page that says it's not a conversion tool. The way to do this, if you don't want to use a third-party tool, is to install Visual Studio 2008 (or VB 2008 Express), along with VB 6. Then, you can open the VBP project directly in Studio, and it will convert it for you. You'll end up with a pile of errors and warnings to clean up, depending on however many issues it finds with your project.

An $800 solution to go really nowhere.
If I was developing today, I would not use use it, as everything is WWW.

A few years ago created a small app with PHP to access my database and it worked.
I did all of it in Ubuntu Linux. I had some one hundreds of miles away at the Library of Congress try it out and he said it looked good.

I am not going to buy an expensive program to convert it, you're instantiating the wrong parameters.

This was just a learning experience to see what could be accomplished, not part of a business endeavor.

I already knew vs 2008 and earlier can accomplish a conversion. But I don't have those programs.
I looked and don't see any 2008 VS community versions for download anywhere. Does anyone know if they exist and where you can find them?

I also don't have to do anything. This is all for fun. I have not had to officially work for 25 years, I retired at 40 with 2 pensions earned and all that Yeah, I worked very hard for a good 20 years in the medical field and picked up programming on the side later on.
I used to work for Glaxo Smithkline and before that Smithkline Beecham. And before them another which I won't mention.

But I always had an interest in programming going back to the early 80's in university where I started with COBAL and FORTRAN.
