Getting the best out of Copilot

I have been using Copilot over the past few weeks and finding it very effective.
However I am finding it impossible to get it fully setup, particularly to use the recent updates to it. I gather from Copilot itself that I need to use Settings to do so. That is supposed to be a round icon top right with my initials or picture in it. Despite multiple suggestions from Copilot, which are beginning to go round in circles, I cann't find any way to access Copilot settings.
Any suggestions please.

Are you using an account with it?

There seems to be a couple of versions of the interface, depending how you open CoPilot. So I have discovered.

If memory serves, that may once have held. But it does no longer. Current home window:



You need to open the sidebar, which is that icon just to the right of "Copilot" in the upper left corner. That gives:



To get into Settings, you click on that little icon in the lower left corner. (I haven't provided Windows with an image, so my icon is generic.)

I didn't find much of interest there. I mainly disabled nearly everything, to maximize privacy. (Not that I expect privacy with a chatbot.)

I had to search for that. I asked Copilot, which was of no help at all. It's mildly amusing that Copilot knows little about Copilot.

I prefer to use Copilot in a web browser at Microsoft Copilot: Your AI companion Note the options to use the Chat GPT5 engine and "Think Deeper"

I use that too - also :

It works brilliantly with EXCEL -- I've been able to do stuff in minutes instead of hours -- and this is only the start of A.I which is really at the beginning of a new "Industrial revolution".

Not sure what it means for newly borns when they grow up enough to reach the potential jobs market -- but after an initial change over and adjustment period new technology always seems to create more jobs than it displaces.

(I'm using Co-pilot with EXCEL as in Office 2024).

Thank you all, especially Bob. All the help I was getting from Copilot was in trying to produce a Home screen with access via the icon you pointed me to at the top right. As you pointed out it was in the side bar bottom left!!
Good as Copilot is, the Humans at Eleven Forum are still the best! Thanks again.

PS after accessing Copilot about this and the success that this forum led me to. It has now added the information to its database. It didn't know about the bottom left hand access for settings!

Good point. It stumped Copilot too!
