As far as I can tell from reading various articles, it is not always possible to disable modern sleep - that depends if the manufacturer allows it via the BIOS settings. This machine appears to not allow it. I also tried to add the network connectivity option to my power plan options as shown...

Not defensive at all. Simply pointing out that I have use NVidia cards for years - recommended for my CAD application - I update the drivers constantly, and I have never had a sleep problem on any other machine or OS with them up until now. I have the same driver installed on my Win 10 laptop...

Nope, haven't enabled any sorting actually. I want them to stay where I put them, not have some automatic system re-arranging everything... I have the default View options Medium icons and Align icons to grid is all.

That's not a fix, just a personal preference. Mine is otherwise. Previous versions of Windows did not do this.
