Like most people, I still have a "Control Panel" item in the left pane of File Explorer, but it irks me that when I click on it, I always get the Category View. This setting used to be remembered in older OSs, but apparently no longer. Now, given this list, I can obviously create a shortcut...
Just realized that 11 gives no indication of what (if anything) might be in a folder, and came here looking for a fix. You say that this is back as of 22557, but do you have any idea when this will trickle down to us "outsiders"? ;-)
Yes, but the issue that this PowerToy was created to address still exists 25+ years later. On thinking about it, I'm astounded that this little tool hasn't been baked into the OS after all this time.

Yes, I've read about the current crop of PowerToys, but these apparently address new issues. It seems that nobody at Microsoft is interested in updating the "oldies but goodies" to current standards, and I came here to ask if anyone knew of a third party version.

That's good for some Microsoft apps (like Notepad and Paint) but not others (like WordPad). It's no help for third party programs, either, but most of them should have old style shortcuts somewhere in the old Start Menu folders. (I dread the day when I find some "Modern" app that I need to do...
