The timing in the subtitle file will be the same for the 720 as it is for the 1080 and should just work out of the box. That’s if you did the remux.

What are we talking here? Reads a little too much like piracy.

Usually all that's needed is to adjust the start time (use SubtitleEdit or the online app linked to by @antspants), but if you have subtitles that drift, it's best to keep looking for a subtitle file that matches correctly (once the start time is correct).

Otherwise, you can use SubSync which synchronizes by listening to the audio.

Sorry to not have replied before now. After posting some things happened that I am just now able to get on computer.

First to explain my post. Some time ago an old friend asked me if I could make him a continuous movie of "Band of Brothers" as he did not like all the duplication at beginning and end of each session. I DLed all 10 sessions with subtitles and made ten extra clean sessions,without subtitles, which was alright at the time.

Now his hearing is almost gone and he asked me if I could add CC for him. I have no idea how or what I could do to add CC or how to go about it. I have now learned that a 1080P subtitle will play on a 720 movie without being converted. I have capcut but if I add subtitles to a clean session it just gives me a non clean session with everything back. I think I need to DL all ten subtitles and save just the part I want and somehow match it to the speaking part in the clean session. Not sure how to save just the speaking part of file that I need.
Any advice would be appreciated.

If you have all 10 subtitle files and 10 videos with the intros and recaps removed all you have to do is use one of the tools mentioned to correctly set the start time for each subtitle file. You can leave them as separate MP4 and SRT files or combine them into MKV files. Use a good player, such as VLC, to play them and all should be fine.

When you refer to the "speaking part" are you saying that your current subtitles include descriptive text and you just want the spoken parts? If so, you can often download either type of subtitles or you can use a tool such as Subtitle Edit to automatically remove the descriptive text.

Hi there

@wvman80
I think you can download subtitles from this free website (registration required though)

The usual format is .srt but others are available.

Then add the subtitle file to the video file and with your movie / video player e.g VLC or whatever select subtitle and then select your downloaded subtitle.

e.g

If you have something like KODI installed on a firestick etc you can download the subtitle(s) automatically via adding the opensubtitles.com plugin to the subtitles service while watching the video. KODI is a bit more complex to set up but it means if watching on a remote TV you don't need to download the subtitle first via a separate app on your computer and copy it to the folder containing the video.

@LesFerch

I think the opensubtitles.com solution is far easier than messing around and editing them.

BTW the google translate is great for translating these into other languages too if required.

Here's a link to my post on this :

(Aso OK if there's no English translation on opensubtitles.com for the subtitle you want but another language one exists. Simply download the subtitle and translate into English or whatever using the subtitle translator link.

Translation and the AI has improved very much in the last year or so -- translation is quite accurate now.

Cheers

Update on my Band of Brothers progress.
Due to medical issues I have not been able to work on this project until now.
I finally got my Band of Brothers problem solved except for how to combine all ten into one.

I first found and DLed all ten episodes with out subtitles into a separate folder.
I then trimmed and DLed all into another folder.
I then found and DLed all ten subtitles in English into another separate folder.
Then I used Subtitle Speech Synchronizer on each trimmed episode and saved the text file in another folder.
I then used Handbrake to combine each episode with its synchronized text.

Now I have ten trimmed episodes with subtitles that are audio and subtitle synchronized together.

Unfortunately I no longer have the paid program I used years ago to combine the first Band of Brothers.
Is there a simple free or small fee program that you could recommend to combine all ten episodes into one movie of about 13gb?

Thanks for any advice.
