Solved 2024-07 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5040527) Help?

After installing update and running post update cleanup script, my machine keeps telling me that I need to restart to install updates. Then if I go to Windows Update, it shows said update "Pending Restart". Never go away even after repeated restarts. After briefly looking around this morning, I'm not seeing any complaints about this so I'm assuming I'm a special case. Any advice?

Edit: I can right-click restart icon in task bar and hide, but that doesn't seem like the best fix.

I installed that update and the optional preview Net Framework update without problems. My question is: what does your "cleanup script" do?

I may be mistaken, but from what you are telling us, the update had not been fully installed yet because it was pending a restart when you ran the cleanup script . . .

I am suspicious that the cleanup script might have nuked the update from completely installing. That is just my guess.

Like you, I have not seen reports of this preview update causing problems.

It was a cleanup script that is posted here. Currently tied up so can’t post the link. I’m nearly 100% I didn’t run it before restarting for update but I suppose anything is possible. I appreciate the replies and will try the Reset Windows Update link after the wife goes to work.

Is this usually something that would require a fresh install to fix, or could that sort me out?

Might also run as administrator - SFC /scannow and then DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
