Hi all,
I have just coming across this issue in the last 24 hours for my 2 children who are 11 1/2 and 13 1/2. Suddenly both their computers when opening the XBox App it constantly prompts that they need to sign in. They do this then launch a game EG: Palworld, Minecraft Bedrock etc and prompted to sign in again. Palworld then crashes out, Minecraft will get to the title screen then say they are not logged in.

If they close the xbox app and re-open the whole process starts over. The Windows Store seems to remember who its signed in as. I reloaded my sons computer from scratch and the issue is still there. However if I log into my adult account on my sons machine I dont have the issue.

I suspect a Windows Update or Family Safety that has broken something.

Any assistance greatfully accepted.

You will have to look at your countries specific requirements for age verification, and same for Xbox App. Look at support.

I have had a couple of notifications (Aug,Oct) about changes for early 2026 for UK. All the links are for UK so will not be same for your country.

Further investigation and testing. See below:

Hi all,
I have just come across this issue in the last 48-72 hours for my 2 children who are 11 1/2 and 13 1/2.

Whenever they open the XBox App on Windows 11 they are prompted to Sign In or just Browse the App, they select Sign in and it gives them a "Welcome Back message" and confirm to use that account or sign in with another. If they close the app and re-open it they are prompted to sign in again. We have Microsoft Family setup and have tested this across 3 seperate devices and it behaves the same. If I log into the XBox App though then close it and re-open I stay logged in.

This issue has extended onto causing sign in/authentication issues for games installed/downloaded from the Windows Store/XBox app. Mainly Minecraft Bedrock, PalWorld and Roblox.

Minecraft Bedrock opens but says they are not signed in. When you click sign in within a few seconds you get the error message "Drowned"

Roblox Application opens to the Roblox title screen but there is nothing to click on to sign in etc. Just the background picture.

PalWorld looks like its going to start to launch, you see a brief message saying Signing In and Syncing then Palworld shows the error: "The game crashed Error code: (0x8000ffff)" or "Something went wrong launching your game Error code: (0x8007023e)" and occassionally 'Something went wrong launching your game. Error code: (0x87e10802).

If I uninstall the version of say Roblox from the XBox and app download and install it directly from the Roblox website it works correctly.

I reloaded my sons computer from scratch and the issue is still there.

Someone mentioned about some recent authentication issues Microsoft have been having.

Any help greatfully received.

Thanks,

Dwarfboysim

We have this exact problem.

And it started Friday and could not find anybody else seeming to have the same problem. until now
I have not installed 25h2 yet, so it probably is something else..
The problem is only on my sons windows account. Not when I log in.. The problem started on my PC first so he switched to the laptop where it worked for 20 min. Then Minecraft just closed and after that the login nightmare started there too. My guess is that it updated something in the background.
Earlier this summer I had to remove all family functions on my laptop because it got the dreaded "login to family loop". Microsoft has not addressed that problem for years. Their only viable solution is to remove all family related. So family restrictions only work on my pc, but xbox apps short memory span exists on both and only on his account.

it feels like there is no direct way to get help with issues like this. Microsoft forums get you in touch with the MS trolls that do there best to break you down with arbitrary fixes.. Like: restart your computer, run dism or sfc..

This problem is obviously connected to children accounts and something an update broke..
Btw, my sons age has not changed this weekend.

If anybody knows a fix me and mostly my son will be so grateful.

Thanks,

Hello everyone,

I’ve encountered a persistent issue since updating to Windows 11 25H2 (build 26200.7019).
My child’s Microsoft account (previously under Family Safety) can no longer keep its Xbox sign-in state.
Even after signing in successfully, the Xbox App and Minecraft Bedrock Edition require login again on every launch.

This occurs on two separate PCs, while my adult account works perfectly on both.

🧠 Environment

  • Windows 11 25H2 (10.0.26200.7019)
  • Xbox App v2409.1001.x (latest Store version)
  • Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.21.20+
  • Microsoft Account (Family child account → now set to adult age 21 and removed from Family group)
  • Both devices reproduce the same problem

🧩 Symptoms

  • Xbox App asks to sign in on every launch (“Keep me signed in” does not persist)
  • Minecraft Bedrock Edition shows “Can’t connect to your account” / “Marketplace unavailable”
  • Java Edition (Launcher version) works fine
  • Network connectivity to auth servers is OK (xsts.auth.xboxlive.com TCP 443 reachable)
  • No system file corruption (DISM and SFC verified clean)

⚙️ Commands and Fix Attempts Performed

1️⃣ Check and reset Xbox-related services / packages

<span>Get-AppxPackage *Xbox* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers<br>Get-AppxPackage *GamingServices* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers<br>Get-AppxPackage *IdentityProvider* | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers<br>Restart-Computer<br></span>

Then reinstall Xbox App and Gaming Services from Microsoft Store.

2️⃣ TokenBroker and WAM reset

<span>net stop tokenbroker<br>del /q /f "%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\AC\TokenBroker\*"<br>del /q /f "%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\TokenBroker\*"<br>del /q /f "%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.GamingApp_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\TokenBroker\*"<br>net start tokenbroker<br></span>

→ No improvement (keeps asking to sign in each time).

3️⃣ Firewall and network verification

<span>Get-NetFirewallRule | findstr Xbox<br>Test-NetConnection -ComputerName xsts.auth.xboxlive.com -Port 443<br></span>

✅ TCP connection success (443)
✅ Ping RTT ~ 100 ms

4️⃣ System integrity check

<span>DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth<br>sfc /scannow<br></span>

✅ Result: No component store corruption, no integrity violations.

5️⃣ Credential and WAM cleanup tests

<span>cmdkey /delete:MicrosoftAccount:user=&lt;childaccount@domain&gt;<br></span>

→ “Element not found” (so no stored credentials present).
Also tried sign-out / sign-in from Settings → Accounts → Email & Accounts.

6️⃣ Other actions

  • Removed the account from Microsoft Family group.
  • Changed age to 21 (Adult).
  • Reinstalled Minecraft UWP App.
  • Cleared Microsoft Store cache (wsreset.exe).
  • Created new local Windows user → same behavior when using the affected account.
  • Adult Microsoft account works fine → points to account-level issue on cloud side.

🔍 Findings / Hypothesis

Everything at OS level (network, WAM, system files, packages) is normal.
Only this particular account (former Family child) fails to retain its XSTS token persistently.
This suggests a cloud-side issue in the Microsoft account’s Family attributes or XSTS token binding.
Even after removal from Family and adult age setting, the token likely resets each launch.

🙏 Request for Help

  • Is anyone else experiencing this on Windows 11 25H2 with Family/child accounts?
  • Has anyone resolved it by contacting Microsoft to remove Family flags on their account (“msa_family_info” reset)?
  • If Microsoft staff or insiders see this post, is this already a known XSTS/Family integration bug under review for a future cumulative update (KB50668xx)?

Any information or success cases would be greatly appreciated!

🧩 Possible root cause: Xbox Identity Provider v12.130.16001.0

After extensive testing, it seems that the sign-in persistence failure (Xbox App / Minecraft / Game Bar repeatedly asking to sign in, tokens not being retained) is not fixed by uninstalling KB5067036 or any recent cumulative update rollback.

The issue only occurs on Windows 11 25H2 systems where the Xbox Identity Provider version 12.130.16001.0 is installed — especially on Microsoft Family accounts (including those converted to adult accounts or removed from Family).

  • ✅ Rolling back the OS (DISM / SFC / KB uninstall) → no improvement
  • ✅ Reinstalling Xbox App, Gaming Services, and Identity Provider → no improvement
  • 🔄 Downgrading Xbox Identity Provider to version 12.115.1001.0 reportedly restores normal token persistence (XSTS authentication holds correctly).
  • ⚠️ However, that version is no longer available on the Microsoft Store, and only archived AppxBundles exist on external mirrors.

So the root cause is very likely the 12.130.16001.0 release of Xbox Identity Provider bundled with 25H2 updates (October 2025).
Until Microsoft re-releases or patches the Identity Provider, sign-in sessions will continue to expire on affected Family/child accounts.

Following.

Same issue here, windows 11 Education. All of my accounts are working perfectly, but my 10 year olds accounts are not. Will sign into xbox app, but as soon as I try and sign into any game either the game crashes / black screens (Among Us) or we get a cannot sign in error (Minecraft - Drowned error). But as soon as I sign in (even on my childs system user account) with my xbox account all works perfectly. Clearly an issue with child account. I've tried everything I can think of, uninstalling all xbox stuff including gaming services. Even Regedit to clear HKEY local gaming services. Resetting store and xbox and all related services. As well as deleting his account on PC and having to add a fresh user again.

🟢 [Update – November 4, 2025] Xbox sign-in persistence issue fixed in the latest app release

After thorough testing, it appears that the XSTS token persistence (especially for family/child accounts, sign-in not remembered after restart or app restart) has been resolved by the latest Xbox app update.

🔧 Environment before modification

  • THE: Windows 11 25H2 (ビルド 26200.7019)
  • Problem: Xbox app and Minecraft (Bedrock/Launcher) repeatedly require Microsoft sign-in every time it launches
  • Possible root cause: Xbox Identity Provider (v12.130.16001.0) session processing is under family limit, so tokens are not cached
  • Mitigation attempts:
    • Reinstall all Xbox related apps
    • net stop tokenbroker / net start tokenbroker
    • Delete cached credentials and SSO_POP entries
    • Roll back KB5067036 → no improvement

🧩 Components after the update

ingredientsversionUpdated onannotation
Xbox app25.11.1001.6.0October 21, 2025✅ Fix confirmed - tokens are now retained after reboots
Xbox TCUI1.24.10001.0November 2, 2025Updated along with the Game Bar plugin
Xbox Game Bar Plugin1.54.4001.0November 2, 2025Companion Components - Silent Updates
Xbox ID Provider12.130.16001.0October 28, 2025It's the same version as before, but it now works fine with the new Xbox app

✅ How it works after the update

  • The Xbox app now remains signed in after a restart.
  • Minecraft Launcher (both Java and Bedrock) will automatically recognize your account.
  • TokenCache.datIt will
    appear correctly underC:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider_8wekyb3d8bbwe\Settings

🧠 conclusion

There was no need for rollbacks or manual modifications.
The latest Xbox app update (v25.11.1001.6.0) appears to include internal changes that resolve the Family Account-related token caching issue that occurred in previous builds.

For other users using 25H2+ Identity Provider v12.130.16001.0, we recommend that you check to see if the November update has already been rolled out to your region. This should fix the persistent sign-in loop.

Craft, my Hero!

I'm seriously impressed by your error searching process..

Thanks for committing so seriously to this issue and reporting your findings to help others!:clap:
I know that nothing you found was fixable from the users side, but just concluding that made me calmer to wait for the next update.

I'm gonna update as soon as I get home. My son is going to be so happy when the xbox-app works again!

Well done, sir.. and thank you!

Thank you!
I’m really glad this helped you and others — it took some digging to confirm it wasn’t a local config issue but a token persistence bug between Family accounts and the Xbox Identity Provider.

After the latest Xbox app update (v25.11.1001.6.0), the issue seems fully resolved here.
Hopefully everyone else will see the same fix once the rollout reaches them!
