Solved A bit confused again. What actually is/isn't possible, re keeping Home 23h2 and avoiding 24h2 being forced on us?


Oddly I have 24H2 on all my PCs and have no problems

I plan on keeping 23H2 on the X99 build indefinitely, much like my Win 7 Ultimate. I've already got 24H2 on the X299 and IMO it has a long way to go before I would say it has a decent measure of stability. Incidentally, I'm currently typing this on Win 10 on my X570 Crosshair Hero. I am currently in the process of dismantling my X99 build and cleaning all the hardware before installing the system board in another case. It's going to be a lot to build back. Many cards, many drives, many components. I'm learning that shutting off Windows Updates isn't the end of the world. In fact, in many cases it gives me peace of mind. Personal preference prevails.

By the way how long is 23H2 supported? Is it just until October?

Windows 11 22H2 has already gone into EOL (end of life) support, that happened last year.

I'll be keeping mine after the "servicing" stops. Being forced to use Win 10 because I have two Win 11 builds in various stages of building has shown me just how easy and convenient Windows 10 can be in comparison. Of course, this is a gaming rig so it's much less complex and I hardly use it. After being a PC builder for over two decades I decided to build myself a gaming PC because well, just because. The thing is I'm terrible at gaming so mostly it sits in a corner looking pretty. I use it when my other PCs are doing updates or, are having Windows 11 issues or, I need to update the thing. Yes, I confess. I have too many computers.

:lmao: Oh, I wish I had the finances you suggest that I have! I'm living on a poor man's pension and raising three daughters on a limited income. (It's complicated.) Mind, the missuz has her hobby addiction as well. We have countless bins full of yarn so she doesn't give me much flak about my hobby as long as I don't give her any gears about her hobby.

I work mostly on older PCs, bring them back to life and give them to kids. It really bothers me to see so many functional desktops getting tossed in the recycling bins just because they're old. Perhaps it is a Freudian thing? :confused: At any rate I'm staying busy and making it count. Admittedly, it has its perks. My daughters are very pleased that they have someone handy to keep their tech running and even their friends get along with the old man. They all call me "the computer guy". This is the advantage of living in a small town.

Well, as a Joneser here, in Alberta, Canada, giving someone "the gears" is like giving them flack. She has tons of yarn. She does all sorts of knitting and crochets all these crazy items. I'm surprised she hasn't crochet covers for our computer cases. There's yarn everywhere, in every room, sometimes in the middle of the night I get attacked by balls of yarn. I have to watch where I step. Those needles are sharp! BUT I have computer components everywhere too so I really can't complain. We tolerate each other and it's not that hard to do since we also benefit from one another's hobbies. ;-)

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
