A right adapter for my kinan kvm switch

An interesting thing, recently I bought a Kinan desktop kvm switch for my work, but it can't work. Why? Because the switch I bought has DVI ports, and my work laptop has HDMI ports. Then I don't want to change the switch, so I chose to buy an HDMI to DVI adapter. Finally, I found it still can't work. So what I should buy is DVI to HDMI adapter...right?

Why? Can you tell me the difference between DVI to HDMI adapter and DVI to HDMI cable?

The more connections you have, the more places trouble can be introduced. Plus, most adapters are cheaply made and of poor quality. Yes, you can buy better ones if you want to pay that much for them. An adapter cable has a solid connection end to end.
I've used adapters of all kinds and have encountered loss of connection, poor signal quality, and other flaky issues. Once I started using adapter cables, (good quality cables) I've not encountered one fault. It wasn'st too bad back in the analog vga days, but you're looking at a digital graphics signal with sound which is much more complicated. If you want to use an adapter, go ahead. Your choice. I gave you my best advise.

Thanks for your advice. I found you said"adapter cables", why it isn't "adapter" or "cable"? It is a little difficult for me to describe the image. I need to search the pictures for you. I think you mean the second type? (jsut the appearance, don't care about the type of ports)

I have no idea what you mean.

Your laptop has HDMI ports. You need an HDMI to DVI adapter or cable.

According to one manufacturer, that's a simple passive adapter. (No electronics, just wiring.)

HDMI includes audio while DVI does not, but I doubt that is relevant to you, if you're using old DVI gear.

There are other considerations. There are a variety of DVI connections.

It might have been better to get an HDMI KVM and do the adapting downstream of it.

(I admit that I've never used a KVM switch of any flavor.)
