Solved A Script to Flush DNS

This file written for windows 10/11 allows you to click to flush the DNS cache. A text file is created on your dektop which appends the date/time of each DNS flush.
To use the file copy it to your desktop and then open the file using Open with Notepad. It will inform you to put your username in 3 places as shown in place of NAME . Then rename it FlushDNS.bat. No other installation is required, it is a stand-alone script. To remove it from your computer, simply delete it. I like to remove the history of the web pages that I have looked up using DNS. That list provides advertisers with your interests and aids targeted advertising. Flushing the DNS cache will remove some cookies, so you may find certain sites act like you are a first time visitor.

Press Win + S to open Windows Search. ...
Type the following command in Notepad: cmd.exe /k ipconfig /flushdns.
Select “all files” in the save box at the bottom and save the file as something.bat
Click on the Save button.
Now go to the batch file location and double-click on it. The Command Prompt will launch and execute the "/flushdns" command.

Setup a schedule to run the batch or run it manually.

You could just output everything to DNS.txt in the same folder as the batch file, e.g. echo blah blah >> %~dp0DNS.txt, and not have to worry about the user's name.

Also, WMIC is deprecated. You should probably get the date and time elsewhere. You're already using %TIME% below the WMIC lines.

I would use %username% in the script instead of letting people type it in there self.
So for example, this: echo %flushdnsOutput% >> C:\Users\Keith\Desktop\DNS.txt
Will be echo %flushdnsOutput% >> C:\Users\%username%\Desktop\DNS.txt
And the script will just retrieve the name from the current logged in user. No need to define that variable yourself.

The desktop folder is not always right inside the user profile, e.g., if the user uses OneDrive or some other cloud-based backup that redirects the desktop. Also, the user profile folder is not always %USERNAME%, e.g. if the account has been renamed but the folder has not.

You could try this script.............open a command prompt then copy/paste
ipconfig /flushdns then, press 'enter'

Create a batch file for flushdns

Batch:

@echo off
ipconfig /flushdns

name it "FlushDNS.bat

Create the following batch file to create the tasks in Task Scheduler at times of your choosing.
I don't need an output result of process.

Change the path "C:\Path\To\Your\FlushDNS.bat"
Change the times as needed. (ex "st 13:00" etc)
Add more if needed. Add new line, change ex "st 21:00" (24hr clock) etc:

schtasks /create /tn "FlushDNS_9PM" /tr "C:\Path\To\Your\FlushDNS.bat" /sc daily /st 21:00 /ru "SYSTEM" /rl HIGHEST

Change the name FlushDNS.bat if needed
Save as bat file (ex Create_Task_Entries.bat)
Right click on Create_Task_Entries.bat and run as admin
Tasks will be created in Task Scheduler.
Never have to manually run the ipconfig batch again

Task Scheduler entries for flush DNS at set times. Run Once:

schtasks /create /tn "FlushDNS_8AM" /tr "C:\Path\To\Your\FlushDNS.bat" /sc daily /st 08:00 /ru "SYSTEM" /rl HIGHEST

REM Create a scheduled task to flush DNS at 1 PM
schtasks /create /tn "FlushDNS_1PM" /tr "C:\Path\To\Your\FlushDNS.bat" /sc daily /st 13:00 /ru "SYSTEM" /rl HIGHEST

REM Create a scheduled task to flush DNS at 9 PM
schtasks /create /tn "FlushDNS_9PM" /tr "C:\Path\To\Your\FlushDNS.bat" /sc daily /st 21:00 /ru "SYSTEM" /rl HIGHEST

echo DNS flush tasks scheduled successfully.
pause

I'm new at this so...
But it appears to have worked.

Not sure how to add the command to set Task Schedule to "Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled task is missed"

I’m fascinated by all things flushing related. Ants… why do you flush your DNS? I couldn’t tell you the last time I did it.

The thread was clickbait because I'm trying to better myself

The only time I flush is when trouble shooting an internet fail or after wiping my butt.

After searching around I was left with the impression that adding "/it" to the end of the script line, would set the task to Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled task is missed"

Ironically I have to do this at work sometimes, for the pdq agent and other things to see the machine sometimes.
