Solved Accidentally opened a PSD File as a PDF File

Hi guys, I accidentally opened a PSD File as a PDF File. I reset from settings default apps but, nothing changed it.

Listen, please. I didn't install Adobe Photoshop on my PC. I don't want to open with Photoshop file. Because the software isn't installed on my PC.

Right click the psd file>Properties>Opens with:>Change..., change it to an appropriate program..., Set As Default, if you wish, click Apply and OK.

Why I am saying this. I did all of them. Photoshop isn't installed on my PC. I don't want to install it. I only want to do this:

Make the file view looks like an empty file. I hope I was able to explain my thoughts.

You might have to Reset your defaults in Settings.
Search the web to see if there's a way to change back to No default, one file type at a time.

If you don't have a program that opens .psd files, I would just ignore it...,
unless it bugs ya, then Reset your defaults.
Be aware though, setting your preferred defaults again, one at a time, in Windows 11 is a p-i-t-a!

Google: convert .psd to whatever file type you want. Like convert .psd to .png or whatever.

There's tons of online converters.

I tested it on a VirtualBox environment:
Made SumatraPDF to be the default program to open a .psd file.
Then deleted the whole .psd key out of the registry (you need to do a trick with "taking over the rights" to be able to do that), but after a restart it still did open it default by Sumatra PDF... Reverting all extensions back to default gave the same effect, because (in this case) Sumatra PDF is the default.

So I think you should just leave it or change it to another program that can open the .psd file.

You can open it by (freeware apps found on the Internet), for instance:
- Gimp
- Irfanview
- Artweaver
- Paint.net
- Photopea

If you might have one of those already on your system, the easiest way to solve the problem is to change it to that app.

But maybe someone has a real solution to delete the extension from the list (which was possible in earlier Windows versions, as far as I remember).

I found a way to remove the associaton here:

Tested it on my testsystem and indeed: it did function!

In this video I even found a still better way (tested that too):

So you can make a new file and change the extension of that file to anything impossible (for instance .xyzabc)
Then associate the default .psd extension to that 'program' and remove the program afterwards.

Paint Shop Pro and XnView (both free), can also handle .psd files

Just a comment, Adobe does use a similar logo for their products such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Creative Suite and others.

I uninstalled Adobe Reader using Revo Uninstaller from regedit all files and reinstall it again. The problem solved.
