I have a Win 11 laptop using a gmail.com as my MS account. This gives me 5GB when using Onedrive.
I have another Win 11 laptop using a hotmail.com as my MS account. This gives me 25GB for my Onedrive.
Can I change the one with 5GB to the one with 25GB? Without losing anything although I do have copys of my files on an external HDD.

Personally I would go the safest route: disable device encryption/bitlocker, copy files from 5gb account to external media, add the 25gb account as a second user, Restart, login to new 25gb account, copy the files into it, then delete 5gb account

The most direct approach is to temporarily switch to a local account, then switch back using your desired Microsoft account.
Here's how:
  1. Switch to a Local Account:
    • Open the Settings app (press Windows key + I).
    • Click on Accounts.
    • Select Your info from the left-hand menu.
    • Click the link that says Sign in with a local account instead.
    • Follow the prompts to set up your local account, including entering a username and password.
    • Click Next, then Sign out and finish, and sign back in using the newly created local account.
  2. Switch to your New Microsoft Account:
    • Open Settings again.
    • Go to Accounts > Your info.
    • Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
    • Enter the credentials for the Microsoft account you want to use.
    • Sign out of the local account and sign back in using the new Microsoft account.
Important considerations:
  • This process allows you to link a new Microsoft account to your existing Windows 10 user profile and retain your files.
  • However, some user settings and app preferences associated with the previous Microsoft account might not automatically transfer.
  • For transferring data and settings between accounts, consider creating a new user account linked to your preferred Microsoft account and then manually transferring data.
  • If you have encrypted data, be mindful of the impact of changing accounts. Consider backing up your data before making changes, especially if encryption is enabled.
  • If you encounter issues or are unable to switch accounts directly, adding your new Microsoft account as a separate user and then moving your files might be necessary,

If I was doing it I would go with your suggestion. Something about the AI suggestion doesn't sound right to me.

To change the email account associated with your Microsoft account on Windows 11, you need to modify it on the Microsoft account website and then sign back into your Windows 11 device. Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Change the email on your Microsoft account:

  • Open a web browser and go to the Microsoft account website.
  • Sign in with your current Microsoft account credentials.
  • Navigate to "Your info" and then "Edit account info".
  • Add your new email address as an alias, or create a new one.
  • Make the new email address the primary alias for your account.
    • Remove the old email address from the account if desired.
    • Sign out of the Microsoft account website.
2. Sign in with the new email on your Windows 11 device:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info.
    • Click on "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead".
    • Enter the new email address and password, and follow the prompts
