Acer laptop very slow on Wi-Fi, other devices fine

I have a 300/300Mbps FTTP connection but for some reason my laptop is only getting about 60Mbps download speeds but uploads are fine (it was ok until recently and I haven't changed anything).

I've got an Asus RT-AXE7800 6e router, the laptop is the only device connected to 6e (although I've also tried it on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels as well and it was just as slow), other devices connected to the other 2 channels (e.g. Android phone and tablet) are getting about 325Mbps down and up from the same location the laptop is sited so I think the issue is with the laptop.

Windows 11 Pro is 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4061)
Intel Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX1675i 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (211NGW)
Driver version: 23.90.0.2
Protocol: Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
Network Band/Channel: 6 GHz (5)
Aggregated link speed (Receive/Transmit): 817/865 (Mbps)

I've ran Malwarebytes, Spybot and scanned with Total AV with nothing found, I've refreshed the laptop with Windows update that retained all settings, apps etc

I've also used Wi-Fi scanner apps to check for channel congestion and there is none, in fact I'm the only one on 6GHz here, and checked for driver updates.

The laptop is an Acer Predator PT14-51 with an Intel i7-13700H CPU, 32Gb RAM, Nvidia GeForce 4070 8Gb graphics, 1Tb H/D, 14" Full HD screen and connected to a Samsung 4K monitor via HDMI.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi Shaun, welcome.

Thank you for filling out your exact laptop model in your specs and mentioning the Windows Build you’re on. It’s helpful for members. 🙏

A few things I have seen mentioned regarding slow net speeds for the ASUS (Your ASUS)

  • PredatorSense software & the PredatorSense smartphone app (Something to do with the remote app connection, don't ask me why, it’s anyones guess?)
  • Intel Killer related software.

No real info to go with that, sorry. You could however uninstall either or both of these things from your laptop (and phone) to test & see if it makes a difference

Thank you for the reply and welcome.

I'll try those two things, cheers, but one other thing i noticed was when I ran speedtest.net in Brave (my main browser) and DuckDuckGo I get around 60Mb down, but when I ran it in Edge (which I don't want to use) I get 270+Mb down which is very strange.

Yeah that doesn’t seem right. I doubt it’s the software then. Perhaps the settings in Edge and how it's communicating.

I had a similar issue with my Acer laptop 24h2 (SF314-57) , internet and machine were slowing to a crawl. My solution was roll back to 23h2, all problems just went away!
