Personalization Add or Remove D Drive in Navigation Pane of File Explorer in Windows 11

  • Staff
Drive_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the D: Drive in the navigation pane of File Explorer for your account in Windows 11.

All drives are shown under the This PC group in the navigation pane of File Explorer by default.

Removable drives are shown as separate groups in the navigation pane of File Explorer by default in addition to being shown under the This PC group in the navigation pane.

You could Pin to Quick access any drive to have it under the Home group in the navigation pane.

If you like, you can add the D: Drive as its own separate group to the top or bottom of the navigation pane of File Explorer for even easier and faster access.

EXAMPLE: "D: Drive" at top or bottom of navigation pane in File Explorer

You're most welcome.

That icon would be located at "imageres.dll,-1035". The REG file below will change it for you if you like.

Hey unfortunately you can't have these 2 Drives working at the same time only 1 but thank you for the improvement. Would there be a reason why this would happen

Odd. What did you mean by not working?

It adds both drives to the navigation pane for me, and able to have both stay open as last closed when open File Explorer next.

The only way I can think of is to put the drive letters first in the names to have it appear with C first and D second. :(

I can live with this, also would they never being anything in registry editor so if you click the arrow on This PC it would show Desktop Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos folder again :) no registry magic you can do, that would be the best case option

I'll have to do some digging and playing to see what I may be able to find for it.

EDIT:
Hmm, the old ways don't seem to work anymore.

Thank you so much for posting this, and the one for the C drive.

How would one add/remove an E drive as well? Looking to add it to the bottom pane, specifically.

I looked at the ones for D and C to see if I could figure it out, but no clue what some of the long strings are or how to find the right ones to use for E to modify it myself. Appreciate any help! :-)

Hello Greg, and welcome. :alien:

I'll see what I can do for an "E" drive, but if you like, you could use "Pin to Quick access" below for now to add it to the navigation pane.
