Personalization Add or Remove Folders under This PC in File Explorer in Windows 11

  • Staff
This_PC_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the 3D Objects, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and/or Videos folder(s) under This PC in File Explorer for all users in Windows 11.

Starting with Windows 11 build 25136 and build 22621.160, Microsoft is introducing a refreshed layout of the left navigation pane in File Explorer which makes it easy for you to navigate to folders that matter to you.

Known Windows Folders which are available by default in the navigation pane are no longer displayed as a "Folders" group under This PC to keep that view focused for your PC’s drives.

If you like, you can add the 3D Objects, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and/or Videos folder(s) back under "Folders" in This PC.

You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove folders under This PC in File Explorer.

This does not affect folders in the navigation pane.

Removed on Build 26120.470 (24H2 update), and registry don't work. I already restart explorer.exe and even my PC, Folders group don't show up in This PC. I also tried to add the folders individually (except 3D Folder) with those *.REG files, anything just don't work.

Screenshot 2024-05-12 080330.png

UPDATE: It worked after signing out and signing in. The latest 24H2 Dev update just screw the Folders.

UPDATE: It worked after signing out and signing in. The latest 24H2 Dev update just screw the Folders.

Yes, and I have rebooted the only folder that shows is the 3D Objects folder, none of the others. I also ran the remove REG file, and then reapplied the add all REG file, still only the 3D Objects folder is shown.
I have exactly the same problem with Build 26120.470 and Build 26200.5001

Hello, :alien:

I tested on 26217, and it's still working for me.

Just to confirm, did you close and reopen File Explorer or restart to apply afterwards?

Hmm, don't remember for certain if I had done a reboot in 26100.712, what I do know is a reboot, or closing and re-opening File Explorer wasn't required in 26100.560. I'm no longer on the build in question to be able to try it again, thank you for verifying it still works.

Usually, you'd only need to either refresh or close/reopen File Explorer to apply.

Decided to have another look at this. Installed 26100.712 again and came back to this tutorial to try something different by downloading the registry changes for each of the folders once more as the ones I had were from last year. Wouldn't you know it, problem solved!

Ah, that would be why then. The old version doesn't work anymore, but the updated ones in the tutorial now do. Great news.
