This tutorial will show how to add or remove the Network icon on the sign-in screens for all users in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

The Network icon on the sign-in screen can allow users to change the network connectivity state of the computer without having to sign in to Windows.

You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove the Network icon on the sign-in screen.

Contents

  • Option One: Add or Remove Network Icon on Sign-in Screen in Local Group Policy Editor
  • Option Two: Add or Remove Network Icon on Sign-in Screen using REG file

Option One

Add or Remove Network Icon on Sign-in Screen in Local Group Policy Editor

The Local Group Policy Editor is only available in the Windows 10/11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.

All editions can use Option Two to configure the same policy.

1 Open the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc).

2 Navigate to the policy location below in the left pane of the Local Group Policy Editor. (see screenshot below)

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon

4 Do step 5 (add) or step 6 (remove) below for what you want.

5 Add Network Icon to Sign-in Screen

This is the default setting.

A) Select (dot) Not Configured, click/tap on OK, and go to step 7. (see screenshot below)

7 You can now close the Local Group Policy Editor if you like.

Option Two

Add or Remove Network Icon on Sign-in Screen using REG file

1 Do step 2 (add) or step 3 (remove) below for what you would like to do.

2 Add Network Icon to Sign-in Screen

This is the default setting.

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

Add_Network_icon_to_sign-in_screen.reg

(Contents of REG file for reference)
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
"DontDisplayNetworkSelectionUI"=-

3 Remove Network Icon from Sign-in Screen

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

Remove_Network_icon_from_sign-in_screen.reg

(Contents of REG file for reference)
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
"DontDisplayNetworkSelectionUI"=dword:00000001

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 You could now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

That's it,
Shawn Brink

I hope this will work!
My own PC , Server and wife's LT all use W11 only my wife's without PW sign in. My wife doesn't want me to remove it, but I know it.
I granted access share to the server, but I keep getting request to sign in.
To what, with what?
If I try the name of my PC's it still wants a Password that I don't use.
Hopefully this thread will help - I will try tomorrow.

Hello @Brink,

what about Accessibility, can that be removed from there?
About Language Bar... is there a way to remove that to but to keep it in System tray?

Thanks a lot!

Cheers
