Solved Adding Links To All Apps

I have a few apps that don't install, you just copy them and run them and that's that. With Windows 10 I copied links to them in to roaming startup so I could find them in the All Apps. But for some strange reason this is not working in windows 11. When I go to the start menu and click on All Apps, the new folder or link is not displayed.

I noticed that start pinned apps are also in the same folder as links and somehow windows knows not to display those in the All Apps list so I am wondering if Microsoft has added a depth of complexity that I am currently missing!!

Anyway, has anyone tried to manually add a folder or something to the All Apps and managed to get it to display in All Apps??

It works the same way in Windows 11. The tutorial Fabler2 showed you gives the details. It is important to note that explorer.exe has to be restarted for the changes to take effect. The easiest way to do this is to sign out and back in, or to restart the PC. Here's one new folder that I've just made for some of my portable apps:

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

I didn't need a restart for a shortcut though. 🤷‍♂️

@Pocah talked about making new folders for the shortcuts, so I tested doing just that. I did need to restart explorer to get them to show.

Actually that is the guide I followed and I restarted the PC after I was done. Nothing. They are not showing in All Apps.

Interestingly all the examples you give have placed them under letters that already have something in. I will try changing the name to something with a start letter that is already being used by something else.

Just check for 'Added folders must contain at least two shortcuts with at least one of these shortcuts not already on the All apps list for the folder to show on the All apps list.'

Found it!!!!

If you create a shortcut in All Apps that is also pinned to the start, it does not display in All Apps.
If the shortcut is in a folder that has nothing else to display then the folder disappears from All Apps too..

So the solution to my problem was to remove the pin to the start and *poof* the folder and the app suddenly appeared in the All Apps!!!

Thank you everyone, had you not proven to me that it should work I would have given up hours ago!

Oh yes, that's a 'catch 22' that also happens in Windows 10.
