Solved After drive scan, laptop is on a black screen with the mouse constantly showing the loading icon - Is this normal?


Would letting the battery run down cause the drive to fail? Also, I don't mind clean installing again if I can salvage some more use out of the drive, unless it will damage other components. I backup files to an external HDD; could the failing HDD corrupt the personal files I'm transferring to the HDD that I'm pretty sure isn't failing?

Drives can be used until the terminal event when there are backed up images.

Before the terminal event there may be:

a) slow read
b) slow write
c) recurrent automatic attempts to fix drive file system corruption
d) hangs
e) freezes
f) unexpected shutdowns and restarts
g) BSODs
h) etc.

If the driver were under warranty a long DST failure could be used for warranty replacement.
