Solved After upgrade to Win 11 my monitor s going black then coming back right away

First of all I understand had I not upgraded to Win 111 this problem could have started about he same time with Win 10.

BUT.....
As soon as I upgraded to Win 11 my left monitor started to go black for a second then come back and this happened once a day. It wasn't bothering me too much but keep in mind there is an issue somewhere. My plan was to change monitors on my GPU and see if the right monitor started to do the same thing ( Moving the problem to see if it is monitor or GPU ) The other day the right monitor went black for a second and came back but hasn't happened again since. So now that ruins my whole troublshooting idea.

has anyone ever experienced this issue and if so what was the problem? if anyone else has any ideas I am all ears.

I thought I posted this before but I couldn't find the post anywhere so if this is a duplicate post I apologize in advance.

This is common. It really isn't an issue unless it goes black and stays that way. It could be due to a number of things: Windows Updates, driver updates, graphic card configurations, drivers loading, etc. If it happens while the PC has been on for a while it could be a problem with the program you're running at the time or, you may need to update the drivers for your graphics card if you are using one. There is no one single cause of this but generally it isn't a serious issue.

I understand it could be a common issue for some but in my situation it never happening once until I upgraded to Windows 11. But I agree with you it's not a serious issue because it goes black once a day for about a second. The driver that I have for my GPU is the latest I thought I would reply to both in this 1 post.

We could dig a little if you wish. We have similar GPUs. Do you recall what you're doing on your PC at the time when this happens? Watching a video? Gaming? Networking? Or does this happen randomly regardless of what you're doing on your PC.

most times nothing I am watching TV and notice my screen go black for a second and comes back. Other times it has happened doing everything from video to website. there is no one thing it just happens when it does and only happens once a day maybe a few times more than once like twice.

You could try pulling the card and using your onboard graphics if you have them. Also it could be a loose connection, a fouled connection, or a bad cable. If you have it connected to a TV monitor SMART connect could be the culprit in which case it could be the monitor itself. If your using a KVM check your frequency requirements. Does it do 60 Hz? 30? Higher than these? As I said, any number of things can cause this annoying happenstance.

The download driver thing above by @Spunk

Wouldn't be the first time a Win 11 default driver (particularly graphics) is not the optimum for the attached device. In the case of the monitor, this could be a momentary refresh cycle the monitor invokes because of the graphic driver

If that's what the problem is, yes. Definitely a must to use the manufacturer's drivers for graphics cards instead of Windows generic drivers.

on a side note: Don Martin was Mad Magazine's best cartoonist. I really miss his material.

I downloaded the driver's and install them now I will wait and see what happens

Yes, for sure. If you were using generic drivers that could be the issue right there. At any rate that would be the first thing to do in a trouble shoot if everything was working fine before installing Win 11. I had to get Win 11 drivers too for my ancient 1070 when I installed Win 11.

Just adding an update to my issue. After downloading the latest GPU driver the issue stopped for about 5-7 days but now is starting again but it only happens once every few days not every day once like it used to??? any suggestions?

Try the graphics card in another PC. Check your connections. Try swapping out cables. A loose connection can cause that momentary flash. Try it with only one monitor. If nothing flashes with just one monitor then try it again with the other. Check your KVM if you have one. < These are a few of the things that come to mind.

Thanks I will do as you suggested and report back when I figure it out!

I had a cable that was a little loose and over time it would keep getting loose again. I kept getting those little black flashes (and they're annoying). I thought perhaps my KVM was starting to go. Replacing the cable eliminated this issue. Also not all HDMI cables are the same. Some of these can only handle 30 Hz. If you're running two monitors at once off the same card this could present a problem. (Just a thought.) Get back to us soon! :)

thanks for the reply. I doubt the cables are the reason. For 7 years on Win10 never had an issue with screen going back for a second or two like it does every once in a while now. The odds of the cables or a cable going bad just as I upgrade to Win 11 which is when I started seeing the black screen is so slim I can't even go there but may have to if nothing else fixes it. as for now it is a bother when it happens only because it makes me say What could be causing that.

Will update once I figure it out

When i upgraded to Windows 11 from 10 I had to mess around with the graphics setting in the AMD Catalyst app (for me) to get the desktop/GUI to look "right". I had to experiment with settings i never thought about messing with. Just messing around might sort it. I know somebody said this already but it does sound like a refresh rate issue. Do you need to update the monitor driver/colour managment profile???

Quite possible Microsoft stuck its nose in when it should have been minding its own business, and re-applied the Windows default driver(s)/update(s) which reset back to "problem mode"

Reapply proprietary driver and then stop/b;ock Windows from (re)updating.

Good suggestion. I've had Microsnot do that to me too. What I did to circumvent this bit of nastiness is to opt for "Custom Installation" via NVIDIA. It takes a bit longer but it gives you the option of completely removing all older drivers related to your card and giving you a clean install.
