If going via a computer just connect via wifi or if the phone has a removable sd card just plug the SD card into computer and copy via file explorer to thumb device. Lots of laptops still have an SD card slot and use a micro sd card adapter.Sorry, talking at cross-purposes.
I was thinking about plugging it into the computer connector and completely forgot about the context of the discussion.

But I agree there's a zillion and one bits of confusion over USB cables. If you don't want to use a computer then ?????. Not sure why you'd want to plug a thumb device directly into a phone -- but that's not my call to make.
Cheers
